I think with the hotel, they were looking at around 250k of office floor space. They've essentially doubled that. Looks like the floorplates got bigger too.

So far all I hear that is in ink is 40K for KPMG, but at this early stage I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I believe they have 100,000k preleased.

I love Manulife. It's the office tower with the greatest big city feel. Their choice of retailers is fantastic too. Though the layout of the podium on both floors could have been better.

when I see photos of the proposed Manulife 2, it's ok but I wish they'd build a slightly taller duplicate of the original, maybe a little bit greener in color instead of blue just for a little color difference. it's still my favorite Edmonton high rise as well.

One of my favorites in the county really. Its gonna take an amazing building to knock it out of first place for beauty. 102st is very nice...but until I (see) it built out, I will reserve Judgement .

The original design had the same exterior, but was trapezoidal, if I remember correctly. I also recall it was shorter than #1.

Edmonton Cold War bunker, sealed for more than 40 years, looking to re-open

Many walk by thinking it’s a utility shed, but behind the doors of a small structure in the west end of Edmonton lies the city’s Cold War secret.

Built in 1954, a bunker was built three feet underground, once functional seven days a week with a control centre above ground.

“It was believed that if the City of Edmonton were to get bombed that it would be in downtown […] so by the time the shock would have got over to the west-end, it would be dissipating and this would basically be a safe zone,” said Fred Armbruster, executive director of Edmonton Civil Defense Museum.

The bunker was designed to hold 36 people, but never held any occupants other than the staff that worked in the control centre, who would often practice in case of an emergency, said Armbruster.

The bunker was sealed up in the 1970s, but local museum officials are currently restoring the bunker so it can be re-opened in the summer of 2015.

true, I remember seeing an old photo somewhere with the two towers. it still looked pretty cool!

Jury’s out on confusing network of downtown tunnels

EDMONTON - Winter arrived with a dump of snow and a blast of cold this weekend, prompting Edmonton’s heartiest winter-lovers to puff their icy chests, add another layer, and continue biking to work or running through the river valley.

For those of weaker constitutions, winter in downtown Edmonton means once more descending into pedways, burrowing like chipmunks with lattes.

The downtown pedway network — a 13-kilometre not-always-connected web of tunnels and glass passages that are at once convenient and confusing — fills up at this time of year with people scurrying from work, to shops, to LRT trains bound for home.

University of Alberta political science and human geography student Mike Vivian has received a $5,000 research award to study these passages that have been part of city life for 40 years.

that's because it was designed by the city and not the developer or the architect...

they were not allowed to have the main office lobby on the main floor...

This is good, good news.

Well, the old St. Mary's hospital on Whyte Avenue was turned into lofts. There are many examples of this. But yeah, I can see where you're coming from.
