Has anyone heard of a development in the works for the strip mall on the NE corner of 124st and 109a ave?

The building had 3 tenants, all of which appeared to be long standing going concerns (a convenience store, a liquor store, and a doctors surgery), and all of which closed virtually overnight (the doctors surgery closed a month or so after the other two). The building is now boarded up. I presuming the owners have activated a demo clause, but I haven't seen any news regarding a redevelopment.

About the Project
105 Avenue is emerging as a key corridor in the revitalization of the north edge of Downtown. In 2014, the City will begin streetscape improvements to help make 105 Avenue more accessible, better designed and pedestrian-friendly.

The design will focus on 105 Avenue between 109 Street and 119 Street, with the construction limits to be confirmed based on the budget available and scope of work. Future streetscape improvements will be determined based on funding availability.

Where We Are Today
105 Avenue Streetscape is now in the design stage. Roadway construction is expected to begin in spring 2014 with completion dependent on the limits identified during design.

Is this where The Grinder pub used to be years ago? I also noticed it all boarded up.

Yeah that's it.

Was very strange because they all shut the doors at relatively the same time. The building is fairly new also!!

Yes it is. It was rebuilt after a fire but has slowly closed. Could be the site may be for sale.

The more and more I see plans for Rossdale, the more I am discouraged. There is no commitment to develop there. The only way that that place ever develops, especially the parts where it is now merely gravel parking lots, is by a vanity project. With all the connections it supposedly has, it has nothing that actually acts as a connection. The prior incarnation, when it was a pretty bustling neighbourhood, relied heavily on river traffic which has long since disappeared.

Welding Bureau building training centre in Nisku

EDMONTON - The Canadian Welding Bureau broke ground Tuesday on an 18,000-square-foot building in Nisku that will facilitate the training, testing and certification of more than 8,000 members of the industry each year, once it is up and running in the fall of 2014.

“With the goal to support the welding community, we have focused on expansion in Western Canada to target a region where skilled welding professionals are in high demand and having access to the latest welding technology, that is applicable to specific western needs, is critical,” says Doug Luciani, President and CEO of the CWB Group. “In providing local training, testing and certification, we are ensuring the voice of the welding industry is heard.”

But the primary consideration seems to be maintaining the capacity for cars to speed through unhindered. It may be unavoidable because of how we've built there so far, but it's the opposite of how you build a desirable neighbourhood.

That's what I found strange too, especially given that the building appears to be fairly recent. The convenience store and liquor store probably closed on the same day. The doctors office about a month later - presumably, they had a clause requiring greater notice of any lease termination.

If the owners are trying to sell, there's no indication that I've seen at the site.

A grassroots campaign to illuminate Edmonton's High Level Bridge with 60,000 lights received a double dose of good news. Light the Bridge has just surpassed the $2-million mark in its drive to raise $3 million, which was the original estimated cost. "We're at two million and 13,000 dollars as of last night," Dave Mowat, CEO of ATB Financial, who has been spearheading the campaign, said on Wednesday.

"Getting to $2 million was a very important goal for us and we're very excited about the generosity of Edmontonians."...
