^only going to get more insane in the coming years. There are going to be 5 new towers going up in that view over the next couple of years, all above 160 meters. (2 Queen West, Massey, BAC East, 88 Scott, Yonge+Rich)

Look at the small little building across the street from the Gooderham Building, it would make an awesome spot for a skyscraper....

It seems bizarre that that parcel hasn't been developed (or proposed for such) yet. What are the property owners waiting for?

Is there still a Pizza Pizza in that little corner building at Church/Wellington?

I used to work in the office building just north of Berczy Park. It was a great area to be in.

Amazing but expensive. Better than cardboard pizza.

That is a sweet pic Jeff! Winnipeg is going to make a great addition to the million+ club in a decade or 2.

This is a pretty cool shot. Makes me re-think the Toronto skyline. It's not that I've ever disliked it, per se - but we're so flooded with images of it on HNIC or any Canadian news broadcast, and it's ALWAYS from the same spot.

This gives me a new perspective. Literally.

Quebec City and Hamilton certainly can't compete with Winnipeg on the skyline front.

It's a side effect of Winnipeg being the primary service centre for all of Manitoba, a large part of Northwestern Ontario, and a part of Southeastern Saskatchewan, an area with a population around 1.5 million. Keep in mind, it is the ONLY major city in the region, so it has to have the amenities of a much larger city. Quebec City is the secondary city of its province, and Hamilton is the tertiary city of its province, that's why. All of the cities have charm and history in spades though, and good skylines to boot.

They definitely seem comparable on other factors, but they all have very different build styles. Quebec City is an old city with a fair bit of government employment. Hamilton is an industrial revolution town through and through, while Winnipeg is a railway junction city. Plus the one is built on a hill, the one under one, and the other one with no hills to be seen. I love how they're all about the same size, yet some of Canada's most different cities.

Hamilton and Winnipeg were only incorporated as cities 28 years apart. The first permanent settlement at Winnipeg was in 1822, whereas Hamilton's was 1816. Not so different founding dates really. Very different cities though. Hamilton developed around industry while Winnipeg developed around the trade of agriculture thanks to the railroad.

They were founded around the same time, but the populations grew quite differently. Hamilton's been in the top 10 since the country started, Winnipeg showed up in 1891. Also interesting, in 1891 Quebec had 63k, Hamilton 49k, and Winnipeg 26k, then just twenty years later Winnipeg sat at 136k, Hamilton 82k, and Quebec 78k. A dramatic reversal of relative sizes.

That's just how it happened in the west I guess. It looks like that old trend is starting to happen again.

I love this view of the primary core of Winni. I can only imagine how modern it will look once that hotel is built next to 201 Portage.
