The efficiency of a consolidated office runs deeper that proximity between departments...the cost to locate and relocate employees through unionized labour is nuts. Costs can run crazy expensive when floors are shuffled to make room for new employees, or where workers are shifted from one building to another.

I'm not saying that it's a good or bad solution, just that there are far more considerations than simply distance from others within the same corporation.

Awesome morning meeting with the EEDC downtown vibrancy committee.

They used photoshopped images from SSP to show what's going on haha.

There will be a PR campaign about construction, hoarding, disruption.

A living digital project map of downtown is being created.

40% reduction top 8 crime types downtown in the last 6 years.

32 beat cops.

as far as windermere goes, who was it a couple of weeks ago that said of another development site that "all you have to do is plan for it and zone it and be prepared to build it and they will come"? would you use the same descriptive because that person was also wrong? here you had a developer try exactly that... developers don't "make" markets and they don't generate demand. the good ones anticipate it and respond to it but that's as far as it can go.

as far as south edmonton common goes, no one is a bigger downtown supporter than i am. but if you want to say healthy vibrant destination retail is an integral part of a successful downtown, at least so far its hard to say sec hasn't done a better job at delivering that than our core has.

It also seems like a flimsy threat given the arena developments and a potential exodus of chain stores to more modern space...I fail to see what a peeler joint a block and a half away has to do with oxford's deteriorating mall
