Who was it that said a couple years ago.... South Common was the new downtown, and that Windermere would be that in a couple years? Some shmuck from the retail land development side of things?

as far as windermere goes, who was it a couple of weeks ago that said of another development site that "all you have to do is plan for it and zone it and be prepared to build it and they will come"? would you use the same descriptive because that person was also wrong? here you had a developer try exactly that... developers don't "make" markets and they don't generate demand. the good ones anticipate it and respond to it but that's as far as it can go.
as far as south edmonton common goes, no one is a bigger downtown supporter than i am. but if you want to say healthy vibrant destination retail is an integral part of a successful downtown, at least so far its hard to say sec hasn't done a better job at delivering that than our core has.
