Whatever it means, it's a good thing for the retail sector in Greater Moncton.
New Brunswick is 53% urban and 48% rural according to what Stats Can says: http://www.statcan.gc.ca/tables-tableaux/sum-som/l01/cst01/demo62e-eng.htm

Yes, I agree with Statistics Canada, however many studies were done on this topic.

Here's just a few facts;

In a recent newspaper article; Atlantic Canada was named one of the most rural jurisdictions in the developed world.

Slightly more than half of New Brunswick’s population lives in urban areas (52.5%) while the
remaining population lives in rural areas (47.5%). Canada’s population is 81.1% urban and
18.9% rural.

Excluding the territories, New Brunswick is the second-most rural province
in Canada; only Prince Edward Island is more rural.

Now let's go back to retail!

I drove by today and this definitely constitutes an expansion. There are new exterior walls going up. This ESM has always struck me as a small location, so I am not surprised to see them expand.

1) Target parking lot is under repair and it looks like about one-half is going to get repaired. Looks like all the rougher areas with gravel coming up is getting done. Also they are not allowing the buses to sit out front like they did with Zellers. Drop off and pick up will be on Ryan Street.

2) The Klozet Boutique exterior sign is back up. Still one vacancy between them and Cara's.

I'm not surprised that they are paving the Target, it was awful. The store looks new and fresh from the outside, it really pops.

I love transit and it's important. But good riddance regarding the buses in front of the Zellers entrance... people smoking, buses exhaust fumes; see ya! I had a feeling that Target would not allow this. Regardless of this change, Target will still be accessible by transit or car, which is all good.

It's very inconvenient for shoppers who use public transit to get to Target, Sobeys etc. I'll be fun in the winter time lugging loads of shopping bags through the parking lot over to where the buses are now having to park.

I wonder if once the Target parking lot is fixed if things might be amended with where the buses are allowed? Has anyone heard if the current drop location is final?

They should build a bus depot either around the Ryan street extension, or at the end of the parking lot closest to Mountain Rd. IMO.

I highly doubt it. I've been to many Targets and I've never seen a location with transit right at the front door. I don't think it's a Moncton thing, it's a Target Corp. thing.
It would be nice if they would build a new mini-terminal for buses; a shelter with benches and system wide info with realtime schedule update & info; ex: next incoming bus and so on, but unfortunately Transit in Moncton in an afterthought... I've seen smaller cities than Moncton with a way better transit structure.

I think it is now a safe bet that the Moncton Marshall's will be open before the Halifax Marshall's.

They probably could be open before Christmas if they really wanted to. Just imagine the chaos in the Northwest centre parking lot if they opened concurrent with the Target opening in mid-November!!

If there's no more parking available at Target, we'll just park at Walmart and walk to Target if the weather permits!

I was informed by a very very reliable source that the Moncton, Fredericton, Saint John and Charlottetown Targets are all opening the same date in November.

The NorthWest Centre will be a busy place after Target and Marshall's open. In addition to them, two sources have confirmed that Reitmans will be opening next to Sobey's. I am not sure if it is a new store or if they are moving from Trinity Drive.

The Marshall's at the Northwest Centre is essentially complete. All it needs is signage, fixtures, stock and employees.

I wonder if it could open before Christmas........

Terra Verde have moved to their (expanded) new premises on St George Blvd.

A loss for Main St, but their new store is certainly more spacious and seems nicer........

Freshii

A new healthy and fresh food concept will be opening soon. It is organic and lots of options. Wine, low calorie and organic beer will also be offered. It is a growing franchise out of TO.

The former Terra Verde location on Main would be nice.
