I'm arriving at 11:30PM (probably ready to leave around midnight) and need to leave around 4AM to get to the airport. I am staying downtown.

I really don't want to pay $100+ for a taxi. Cab drivers must make a fortune there.

The only cheap options you have to downtown from the airport at 24:00 hr are:

(1) the 747 Bus to Century Park - the last one leaves EIA at 24:00 and there is not another one until 04:34. From Century Park you would catch the LRT to downtown connecting at any of these times: 00:37, 00:52 and 01:07. Or catch a taxi from Century Park to Downtown. PDF's shows you the return time options.

http://webdocs.edmonton.ca/transit/route_schedules_and_maps/current/RT747.pdf
http://webdocs.edmonton.ca/transit/route_schedules_and_maps/future/LRT.pdf

(2) the Sky Shuttle, but you must check-in online and go through booking process to see the times. Read FAQ's to or/and call them to ask how long to EIA to make your early am flight from your pickup point. ** You MUST reserve a seat from anywhere in Edmonton to the Airport ($30.00 round trip) or take it one way.

http://edmontonskyshuttle.com

If it were me I would take the 747/LRT from the airport to downtown and a shuttle one way to the airport assuming I could get to airport timely for the return flight.

As far a taxi's go - yes we have high rates...welcome to Oil Country.

I decided to get the sky shuttle both ways as they had a special running if you booked a round trip. Probably be easier than taking bus/train with luggage anyway .

Thanks for your help! I'm just a little surprised there isn't 24 hour transit service to the airport since its pretty far away from the city.

Numbers look really good. Increase in DEN and NYC capacity should help Transborder numbers during the summer. Hopefully we see some more capacity increases from other carriers like Delta or AA to help drive a little more competition in the market.

Fingers crossed for an International announcement this fall...one can hope.

Was browsing the live feed last night around 2330 and that's when you realize how busy the airport is, and why they need the extra space. Would be nice another one or two webcams replace the old ones so we can see the N terminal better, and maybe one facing North from the S hammerhead.

Took the 747 and LRT today, bang on 1 hour from off plane to home. Loved it.

Thanks, just got here.

The first thing I noticed were slot machines at the gate. Thought I was in Vegas for a second

I also heard there is a casino in the West Edmonton Mall.

An Emirates 77W bound for SFO also did a quick stopover in YEG yesterday (Tues) due to a medical emergency.

This would require a good place to spot. Good luck finding that.

Good thing we have a full service medevac facility at the airport - they can pull right up to iti... Lol. Maybe we should market that!

Due to lack of spotting options in YEG all future widebody diversions should be sent to YYC. Pictures guaranteed every single time.

I see where Iqaluit Airport (YFB) has people on the ground in Paris to promote cold weather testing on Baffin.

It makes me wonder what ways we could market EIA that is different from evryone else.

I can hear it now...

Cyeg66 as the controller,

Random A380; we are having a problem with one of our engines... Requesting the nearest airport...

Cyeg66; that would be CYEG, but sir you still have three good engines and I am tweeting the YYC spotters and sending you there!
