Technically, no. He said he is "not addicted" and does not "smoke/use crack". Very focused on present tense. Could mean he was addicted and did smoke it, but no more.

One good thing about this spectacle. This is the first time since SARS that I'm finding people feeling sorry for Torontonians since SARS! Most times its ambivalence (or worse for the Leafs), but people I talk to about this genuinely feel sorry for Toronto because of this guy. Kinda funny really.

Just watched it on TV and you are very correct!

"I do not use crack cocaine nor am I an addict..."

He did indeed say that he is not addicted to it and not CURRENTLY using it!!

It pretty much seems like an admission that he HAS used it at some point in the past. He also didn't deny that a video exists.

By that logic, he also probably shoots heroin.

After all, it's not like he said he doesn't do it!

But you have to admit he seems to be a little cagey with his denial. I mean, you would think that most public figures who are wrongfully accused of having smoked crack would probably issue a more categorical statement than that.

I like how he continues to blame the Star and ignore the other media outlets that also made accusations lol.

And they would probably have done it sooner too.

Absolutely. That is what they do. Everything is made up, including the video of him falling while trying to throw a football, his encounter with Mary Walsh, him allegedly talking on the cellphone while driving...even his weight is completely exaggerated. The guy is a pinnacle of integrity. A rare intellectual in a den of idiots. A fitness freak, even. The Star made the whole thing up.

I agree that most public figures would have handled it better. In fact, almost anyone would have handled it better.

But this is Rob Ford we're talking about here.

Well I'm sure his statement was written by a municipal lawyer and he didn't want to lie in it. Ford could have said that he NEVER smoked crack or that he tried it in his youth and it was a big mistake, etc. But he is only saying that is isn't using it now. So he could have used it a few months ago while he was mayor and his statement would still be legally accurate.

Rob Ford reminds me a bit of former Alberta Premier and Calgary Mayor Ralph Klein. They both are known for outbursts and drinking a lot. Both were right-wing politicians who were big on cutting spending. But the big difference is that Ralph Klein was actually a caring individual. Klein also had a sense of humour with people who opposed him unlike Ford. Klein also treated his wife much better!

Anything less than this statement:

"I have NEVER smoked crack cocaine, and there has NEVER been any video taken of me doing so".

continues to raise questions about the authenticity of the alleged video.

But, of course, he couldn't say that, because of the possibility of being caught in a lie.

If/when the video is released, he can go back to his statement of today's date, and claim that he wasn't lying.

I call bullshit. The man is an asshole, but not a crackhead.

He's been kicked out of a bar for doing too much coke. Of course none of this is official....
