I think a month or two ago someone asked for shots of South Temple. There has been a photo from Temple Square Station eastwards. Today I happened to be on South Temple with my iPad when sun was still in the north.

This has always been one of my favorite downtown vistas. I like the building wall fronting the green spaces of greater Temple Square.(Our equivalent of Central Park West or Lake Shore Drive?)

They do have a permit to construct the parking garage. That area of the property also has some pretty significant environmental cleanup that is required due to some of the former industrial uses in the area. That will take some time to mitigate.

Downtown - 19th Century Jewel to be Restored

Facade coming down on historic downtown SLC building

SALT LAKE CITY – The restoration of a large downtown Salt Lake
City building is uncovering some interesting pieces of the
past. Construction crews have been removing a facade from the old
Zimm’s building, located at 150 South State Street, uncovering a piece
of history that has been hidden for at least 50 years.

Last week, there were no windows visible on the four-story building,
but they’re slowly coming back to the surface.

“We were taking a 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. Most of it was covered,” said building owner
Andy Renfro.

The building was designed as a carriage manufacturer and built back in
1896. “You can still see the grooves in the floor from where they dragged
the carriages from floor to floor,” Renfro said.

Like most buildings downtown, it was covered in the 1950s to give
aging downtown buildings a fresh look. But today, everything old is new
again. “I think a lot of people are excited. I’ve had many phone calls and
a lot of interest in the building since we’ve been doing this,”
Renfro said. “Moving on to the next step trying to restore it to it’s
original condition.” All four floors are now filled with light and could be
filled with offices by the fall.

The site being prepped in the photo above is for two new mid-rise hotels announced a few weeks ago, not the Convention Hotel. We're still waiting for the announcement on the Convention Hotel. I'm not sure, but are you aware of the Main forum? It has been discussed at length over there. City Council steers Sugar House streetcar extension to 1100 East

SALT LAKE CITY — Calling it a vote for improved air quality, Kyle LaMalfa cast the tiebreaking vote of support for an extension of the Sugar House streetcar line eastward onto 1100 East.

"For me, this vote is about winter and summer inversions that are choking us," the Salt Lake City councilman said Tuesday before casting the final vote...

...The first phase of the Sugar House streetcar will be operational by the end of the year, connecting to TRAX at the Central Point Station, 221 W. 2100 South.

Mayor Ralph Becker and his team supported the extension (Phase II) proposed in a private study, continuing the route north from the end of the streetcar line at Fairmont Park, 1040 East, and turning onto 1100 East toward Westminster College...

In a 4-3 vote Tuesday, the Salt Lake City Council endorsed the controversial 1100 East alignment for Phase II of the Sugar House Streetcar line.

By selecting a "preferred alternative," the city now can seek federal funding for an extension of the line from 2100 S. Highland Drive north along 1100 East to 1700 South. The estimated cost of the extension is about $20 million.

Neither federal nor local funding mechanisms have been identified. And no time frame has been set for construction.

Voting in favor of the 1100 East route were Carlton Christensen, Kyle LaMalfa, Stan Penfold and Jill Remington Love. Soren Simonsen, Charlie Luke and Luke Garrott cast dissenting votes...

OGDEN — The ongoing reconstruction of the 41-year-old Ogden Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reached a milestone Tuesday morning when a 14-foot, 800-pound, gold leaf-covered fiberglass version of the church's iconic Angel Moroni statue was lifted and fastened into place atop the temple's new spire.

Dozens of people watched from various locations around the temple's fenced-off construction site in the heart of downtown Ogden as construction crews used two towering cranes — one with a basket attachment for two workers and one for the statue — to lift the statue into place and to secure it to the spire. The entire process took about 50 minutes...

Kaysville - Utah builder to begin work on 300-home project in Kaysville

Construction is expected to start next week on what will be one of the largest residential communities built along the Wasatch Front since the housing market collapsed five years ago.

Destination Homes, a Layton-based builder, will begin installing roads and other infrastructure on 83 acres centered at 200 N. Angel St. in Kaysville. Close to 300 homes will be constructed over the next five to eight years, Brad Wilson, president of the company, said Thursday.

"The new Hill Farms community will become the residential jewel of Davis County," he added.

Homes will be priced from the "high $200,000s" to as much as $700,000, Wilson said. Lot sizes will range from less than a quarter-acre to a half-acre...

PROVO — East Campus Drive, the main road bisecting the east end of BYU's campus, closed permanently on
May 4, beginning the first phase of a campus redesign intended to open more green space and make campus
more pedestrian friendly.

On Tuesday, construction crews demolished in a matter of hours the pedestrian bridge that had spanned East Campus
Drive between the J. Reuben Clark Law building and the Wilkinson Center since the mid-1970s. The road will be replaced
with a pedestrian plaza and drop-off zone with a canopy and benches.

The closure and demolition marked the beginning of phase one of the campus unification project that will redesign
Campus Drive over the next three years. This initial phase, which will replace a segment of East Campus Drive with
a roundabout and pedestrian drop-off area, should be complete by Aug. 15, according to university spokeswoman
Carri Jenkins.

"We are working very quickly and dilligently to have this finished by fall," Jenkins said.

The first phase also involves the construction of a pedestrian plaza, which will connect the law school to the
Wilkinson Center in place of the 40-year-old bridge and the crosswalk below it. The throughway East Campus Drive
provided will remain closed when construction is completed; access across campus via Heritage Drive and North
Campus Drive will remain intact until the redesign is complete in 2015...

I like how the facade of 111 South Main angulates up the tower. This tower should greatly reduce the gap within SLC's skyline.

Im not tryingt o be a Debbie Downer, but I beleive the scale of the 111 South Main when added into the skyline is grossly exagerated. It appears that it is 13 stories, making it about the same height as the Wells Fargo Building.

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s economy continues to garner national attention as the state’s two largest metropolitan areas have landed among the employment elite.

Forbes magazine announced that Salt Lake City ranked No. 3 for “Best Big Cities for Jobs for 2013" with 4 percent employment growth last year... Salt Lake City trailed only the San Francisco and Nashville, Tenn., metro areas in the nationwide survey.
