Pretty sure an article I read in the Winnipeg Free Press several months ago stated that the CMHR's goal was to draw similar number of visitors to the Museum of Man and Nature - about 250,000 per year.

IMO, there is no way that museum will draw 1 million visitors. Anyways, most of the visitors will be locals.

Yup..me too. Funny when I was in school back in 2001-02...one of the projects I had to do is where excelsior condos are now (was all empty parking lots back then) was very similar to sky phase 1....a curved residential building with a gym/pool on the roof top...needless to say..the critics weren't to fond of the curve for some reason. 8-10 yrs later...I come back down waterfront and see all this new development that I never knew about because I was a suburbanian till now since I switched jobs. And to my surprise I see a building similar to my project. Nonetheless, im very impressed and liking the whole waterfront development and hoping it will turn into something big!

I can't find a better forum to ask but is there a business in Winnipeg that specializes in building dedicated home theatre rooms? Can local home builders do that for you?

New highrise on the horizon
Geotechnical testing begins on vacant lot downtown

"A surface parking lot on prime downtown real estate is finally poised to become a highrise tower, potentially with a hotel chain as the major occupant."

Sorry but I have to quote this. It isn't often that my predictions come out right (one of the reasons why I don't gamble). Bartley often writes articles soon after we begin to discuss the projects here. I wonder if he frequents this site. His "sources" match everything that Viking has posted, pretty much word for word. Although, he does have that Brent Bellamy guy who writes occasional columns to the WFP. Maybe he uses him as a source.

Good call.

As for Brent Bellamy ... meh , I don't know about him. Seems like a bit of a hack. Now Trueviking ... that's the guy who knows pretty much everything about everything. I bow to his wisdom but not that Bellamy guy.

I am pretty sure that trueviking is Brent Bellamy's stalker.

The Westin works because there is no great demand for office space downtown because we have the right amount right now. However with the jets and convention centre expansion there will be more high end hotel demand.

Portage & Main Developement

I took a picture of the Portage & Main site from my office in the Richardson Building (cell phone shot). Although it is difficult to see, it looks like PCL is the GC. The site goes further north than I originally thought and looks to butt up against Whisky Dix. Would love to see the building design for such a prestigious location. These are exciting times!

PCL seems like an "overkill" choice of contractor to have been hired simply to perform load testing on caissons...

I absolutely cannot wait to see some renders of the P&M and Fortress projects. Buildings of that size do not come often for Winnipeg so here's to hoping for great architecture.

(I am aware that that ray wan guy is involved...maybe he will pull off something decent?)

Yeah, I'm honestly more nervous than excited to see the Ray Wan building. You'd have to think with it being such a prominent building he'd put some effort into it...

Well that's disappointing! Just curious, since you submitted the design do they now have control and rights over your drawings? Or could you release them at some point?
