"Village Junction" has (thankfully) decided to throw out the awful Mistecture design it seems, as it is no longer on their Facebook or website. Hopefully they come back with something a little more impressive.

Hey trueviking, thinking out loud here, and I'm not sure if you can even answer this, but is the P&M Westin hotel the same one that you were working on last summer that you said might still go ahead in a different capacity?

yeah, that website used to have the render you posted on there, but it was removed in the past few days. It was on the Facebook account for the development as well, but was removed from there around the same time.

agreed, it is very underrated. In Calgary, whenever I tell people I'm from Winnipeg it surprises me how many people have this idea of Winnipeg's downtown being like some red light district in San Paolo or something.

Sure, there are some crazy things that have happened (and some to people I personally know) but the general downtown area isn't as bad and rough as it is made out to be.

More residential units downtown is always a good thing, and it will only make it safer.

- Chicago: 4.09 km squared

There is much room for development in Winnipeg's downtown. I suppose the large parking lots contributing to the sparseness aren't helping much either but once we see some density formulate, and high rises pop up outside of the south portage area, it will change the size perception I think.

Also, chrisallard has been working on a city neighbourhood map for fun; if you PM him he has a super awesome map which shows the official downtown area and its districts

Edit: Just watched the news clip from last night on CTV website. May 22nd is the official announcement. 1 tower for sure, possibly two or even three. Tribune site, grocery store, commercial details to be confirmed.

This is going to be pretty fun to see what is planned. I wonder how much it will resemble their more conservative Regina development, or some of their more eccentric looking developments. May is going to be a great month.

I think I measured the downtown and remember it being 3.25, but it was definitely over three, which for a city this size is insanely large.

I believe the map I posted matches Chris' map except for one spot where the downtown boundaries do not match those of the individual neighbourhoods.

"The Downtown Winnipeg Zoning By-Law was recently amended to expand the defined Downtown area northward along Main Street by about three blocks. With the exception of the recent addition, the Downtown follows defined neighbourhood boundaries."

I believe they've switched architects to Prairie for the design
