It's not downtown, but it's just outside of Westboro, a pretty trendy part of town with a nice main street. The second phase of our LRT will go right past this building (the plan so far is for a tunnel). There are a lot of old strip malls and car dealerships in the area so it could feel more like downtown (or up town) sometime next decade.

Yeah it was a mistake. Looks horrible. But its on the radar for demolition. No definite date for it to crumble.

A project many of us feared was dead is still moving ahead.

A public hearing will be held at St. John's City Hall on May 22 and our section's Steel-toe Boot Squad will be there to support it. There is significant public opposition to this proposal. Residents of the neighbourhood are bewildered and outraged by the "scale" of the proposal, and horrified that people in the upper floors will be able to see over fences, etc. Not to mention the shadows the buildings will cause.

All the usual s**t we have to put up with here. I'm sure someone will even complain that it increases density.

But, fingers crossed... this project extends our little pocket of taller (more than 4 floors) buildings on Duckworth Street East. It replaces one of three one-floor buildings slapped on empty lots years ago, which looked out of place even then. And it completes the half-finished destruction of an old fire hall.

It looks like another one of the awful proposals St. John's has been known for has been revised to something much better. The Mirador, seen in the first banner, was originally this yellow monstrosity.



The first banner is all we've seen of the revised Mirador. The pictures of the garage are up outside the development and it seems like it will be built before Mirador starts. The bottom two banners, which are redevelopments, are ongoing.

Finally finally finally!!! This proposal is coming out of the blue and I have been waiting for a long time to hear this news!! Might not seem like the biggest of projects but it will do a whole lot of good!

The huge surface parking lot scaring the Old Port will finally disappear. A concealed multi-level parkade with a green roof and kiosks on its side will occupy about a third of the site. The remainder will be transformed into a beautiful public square opening up a pathway towards the Civilization Museum. This area of the city, offering such beautiful views upon the Old Town, looked like a war zone in the 70's and the wasteland created by this parking lot prevented both the locals and the tourists from enjoying this beautiful site. Finally, the transformation which began in the 80's will finally be complete!!!

The building itself looks good. Now just get rid of the sea of surface parking around it.

That's a really nice project in Quebec City. I hope that they start working on it soon!
