I know everyone is going to hate me for bringing this up but it would look far better if we had the ability to put a retractable roof on it.

I think it is essential for us as a city to have that type of facility but yet maybe we are not big enough or important enough to justify it.

There was the option and consideration when it was originally built. Needless to say they (City) never pursued it, and costs escalated considerably there after every time the idea was revisited.

However, I have to disagree. I think the cost/benefit ratio of a covered stadium is out to lunch. Add on the fact that sitting in the sun and taking in the views of downtown on a nice day are phenomenal.

One advantage with a Commonwealth Stadium retractable roof - think of how many more big ticket concerts we can attract. But after seeing the fails with the BC Place roof, I'd be hesistant due to cost and maintenance.

What did the BC place roof cost? 250M or something....no way. not going to happen. ever.

There is nothing better than being bundled up in a one piece ski doo suit and sipping on home made soup from a thermos while watching an October home game. If thats to much, you can hand in your man card.

You will have a few thousand diehards who enjoy freezing out there but the demographics have changed. More baby boomers and their kids want to enjoy the game in a warm environment.

Well, either way, it is largely cost prohibitive for what would get used a handful of times.

To dome this stadium circ 2000ish was 450 mil. And would have made it the largest domed stadium of the time.

I personally would like to see it done. But the cost ratio like cold mentioned would be astronomical.

But I think we will have a winner when they dome the new Rexal

i noticed today that the seats being installed in the upper bowl are a lighter shade of green.

On another stadium related note, crews are busy installing seating at Clarke Field. On the east side, laid down a concrete base to support temporary seats.

Road repairs may mean higher taxes

Property taxes could rise to fix the city's deteriorating arterial roads after a council committee suggested Wednesday looking at a long-term repair program.

Edmonton needs to spend $65 million annually to keep the 832 kilometres of major commuter routes and high-speed thoroughfares in their current good condition, states a city report.

It's now averaging less than $20 million a year for this work.

Council's transportation committee asked staff to outline an arterial paving and rehabilitation program May 29 similar to the neighbourhood renewal plan .

The neighbourhood work is funded by an annual tax hike of up to 1.5 per cent for 10 years, and the city will look at a dedicated tax as one source of money for arterial roads as well.

The committee also recommended city council take a $9-million increase to this year's local road repair budget and put it toward arterial roads in future, which council will consider next week.
