Was into the Northside Walmart yesterday and was told that they expect to have things all converted to SuperCentre by October

The property at the end of Dunn's Crossing Road is being developed into a Multi Unit apartment Building. There is expected to be multiple buildings and construction is suppose to be made public late spring. ETI INVESTMENT INC. bought the land from two families in 2010, and there is over 4 Acres to develop. Should be interesting as I know that the view is quite something in the area especially being at the end of a quiet street.

To be honest I thought there would have been announcement by now, I was told quite a while ago that was the case. I will get back to you on that.

This seems to make the most sense as they have plenty of room to grow. It will be a far less difficult upgrade than the southside location.

Also that area on Dunn's does have a great view (I can see it out my window as I type.)

This doesn't really get me excited, never been big on doing my grocery shopping at Wallmart, I go for everything else, and it seems everything else will be scaled back at both locations now.

that kind of sucks they are not expanding the northside one there is plenty of room for them to expand. i noticed they moved the toys to the side where the paint was, and pushed the paint to the to the back of the store. i am assuming they are going to Axe the paint section. i could be wrong

To each their own. I really like the one in Presqsle isle and Bangor, huge walmarts I Really enjoy walking around them stores. Drive my wife crazy when i am in one of them large super centre walmarts

Walmart will physically expand the NS store when traffic is to the point it is necessary. For now just a rearrange of the store probably works

From what was said here previously, the Northside WalMart (and the SmartCentres development in general) isn't getting the traffic they expected.

Personally, as I've said before, I suspect it's the setup of the RingRoad. A big chunk of the North Side population (Everyone around the Brookside area) can't easily get to the Smart Centres location easily, not without going down to Maple and coming back up.

Whenever they get the RingRoad/2NC interchange finished (however they finish it), the numbers will probably rise to the levels they expect, and that might eventually lead to an expansion.

To all fellow technology nerds, I would just like to point out that the LTE has finally turned on! It's still spotty in some areas, but I get a really good connection downtown.

I agree its a pain, i live in behind the brookside mall or well whats left of the mall. and we have to do thats its some annoying. Ive found that walmart has alot more traffic then it did the first few years it was up there.

I havent got it on my phone yet but a co worker of mine same phone, same service provider has it on his and i dont have it yet... Interesting eh.. From what he told me it sucks the power out of your phone faster

This is exactly the case when I was told by the construction Manager they would be renovating both locations, i asked about the size of the Northside One changing, and he said it was not even being considered due to lack of high sales at that location.

I can't give comment regarding Canadian Tire but I would imagine they are in a similar situation. Earlier this year I was told that if they could have foreseen the Sales Numbers of Gross Profit vs Expenses, The Kent's Buildings Supplies Would not have been built yet or maybe at all. It has not gone the way they had planned.

The Walmart on the Northside is more pleasant to go in on the peak of the Holiday shopping season than the Southside one is at its slowest times of year.

I think and hope one day it will turn around, but in the meantime opening a Business on the Northside is a tough sell unless your McDonalds or Time Hortons. Its why your likely never see any type of retail business take over the Old Canadian Tire or Zellers. I realize it would be nice but not going to happen

It's a shame about the Walmart and any business on the Northside really. Having businesses spread out in more locations is far better for city traffic than shoving every bloody thing on the other end of a giant bottleneck, which is what all the development at the Corbett Centre is doing.

But in the case the SmartCentre on the Northside, it's a PITA. It's not near anything and access from Brookside is lousy. It's not pedestrian friendly either (not that any of these sprawling big box developments are). I'm honestly not sure why they thought that was a good location, unless they just figured people would come no matter what to Walmart and Canadian Tire.

As for the Kent... every time I have gone there the service has been so unbelievably lousy that I avoid it now. It's far less painful to drive down to main to Home Hardware for things they carry, or all the way up to Home Depot for bigger things.

Strong start to building activity this year in Fredericton

Construction activity is off to a strong start this year in Fredericton. In the first three months, the total value of construction was $17.6-million-- that's one-million more than the same quarter last year. Residential and commercial construction are both up slightly while government and institutional values are down. City staff notes despite an economic downtown, there still appears to be confidence in the Fredericton market.

I agree with the kents on the northside, ive spend a ton of money there in the last 3 years, it is hit or miss with the service in there sometimes. last time I needed something to fix something and of course I was in a pi$$y mood so I said i am going to home hardware, cause I want to be in and out and literally i went in and I had what i needed in less than 2 mins, they are always very friendly in there, even though something might cost a tiny bit more i rather pay for service.
