I agree. Both St Mary's and Kingswood would be destination hotels.

The entertainment centre expansion would make it more like a casino according to the article and they are seeking a hotel chain for the development.
Thats great! I hate having to drive to Moncton to go to the casino.

St Marys attracts hoards of people from all over the province as well as Maine and Nova Scotia. A lot of them come for the weekend to play bingo and would gladdly be happy to stay at a Hotel built in St Marys. While they are not playing bingo they could go to the Casino.

I don't see the province allowing St Mary's to go a full casino yet. If they were to build a second Casino in this province, it would probably be in Saint John to tap in the cruise ship market.

But as a miniCasino; basically a larger version of what they have now (no table games basically), I could see St. Mary's still doing well. They already have a huge Bus Tour draw which alone would probably warrant a hotel, and it would become a Freddy Destination even more than it is now.

Some of the cruise ships that visit Saint John already have casinos on-board...I don't see why we would build something to duplicate services. My problem with targeting the cruise ship passengers with a casino is that it encourages them to visit a single venue during their (usually short) stay. There's nothing like saying 'Come see beautiful Saint John!' and then have them spend all day at the slots. Seems counter-intuitive to me.

Along with that, building a casino presumably in the Uptown area would have a severe affect on the poor and addicted in the immediate areas around the Uptown (ie there would be crime and abuse difficulties).

I can't imagine the Province saying no to St. Mary's wishes of expanding and becoming larger. They aren't going to be competing directly with Casino NB.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think they need provincial approval, I was under the impression that reserve land is federally regulated.

They also said it wouldnt be a full fledged casino in the article.

Also, to clarify, the way I interpreted the article, this wasn't something that is going to happen in the immediate future. Personally, I think it is great for the reserve, good to see they are self sustaining, where they already have the grocery store and office complex and their restaruant.

I have herd from a reliable source that WAL MART has inquired about buying land around the Allison Blvd Area. Reason they won't look at Corbett Centre area is they are not interested in leasing land from The University.

Also there is about to be an announcement with regards to the Old Bus Station in the very near future from what my sources say. (Unless it has already been leaked) I know they are looking at several different options

Will be nice to see that property developed. Hope it will be a quality project. Too strategic an area not to do it right.

Now if only there was some news about the Brookside Mall (Zellers) or at the Smart Centre on 2NC then that would be sweet.

That is very exciting! In other news, a tungsten deposit about 100km from our city is probably going to be developed, acording to this article:

and their website: http://www.northcliffresources.com/s/Projects.asp

Ugh, I hope they don't go that far out. As a bus-user, it would put it out of my reach pretty much. Regent Mall is a great spot because so many routes stop there, I have multiple choices. But out on Allison, it'd be a PITA to get there. Guess it would lead me to using North side more; but more likely I'd just shop at Target primarily instead.

That's so exciting! My fave place to eat going into a building that I thought was going to be turned into a parking lot! A great day for downtown indeed! Yay!

There's no way Wal-Mart will build a store on Allison Blvd. It could however, be a possible location for a new distribution centre, but form what I know, that's supposed to be in Moncton.
