I think that's a shadow from the pedway. On that note, pretty sure that pedway won't happen. That's leased retail space where it would connect to Manulife. I doubt that Manulife would give it up for a pedway that would pass through a fairly awkward area anyway.

Looks really good, though! Hope to see this move forward soon!

^He's referring to the area between the top of the podium and the bottom of the hotel floors. It almost looks like a parkade structure.

That's a huge improvement. I'd sure like to have heard the internal discussions about the metal screening that previously covered the low-rise portion.

Oh I see now. Yeah, it does look like a parking structure. Kind of odd that it would sit that high above the street? Are there issues with digging out an underground parkade on this site?

Totally armchair engineering here, but I'd assume that's likely.

Not a parking structure. It's all underground.

That doesn't suprise me... but it sure looks like a parkade deck. I wonder what the purpose of the two open floors at the base of the tower portion are ?

^ Hmm. Lobby on the 5th levle ? That sounds odd.

What's also interesting is that it looks like the penthouse is all glassed in. If the ammenity space for the hotel is down below, I wonder what's going on at the top of the house ?

LOVE that rendering!!! Hope it turns out as well in real life!

If this is going to be a mixed office-hotel tower as proposed, I'm assuming whatever hotel sets up shop in it is going to be in the bottom portion of the tower between the "gap" and the podium. I'd also have to assume that at least one anchor tenant has been secured, as well as a hotel chain also secured, otherwise work wouldn't going ahead as already scheduled.

^ As far as I heard, there have been nibbles but no bites on the office side.

But good quality, "new" contiguous space in a desireable location is pretty much non-existent in Edmonton. A lot of companies are looking to trade up as well. They may not go on spec but I don't think it'd be too hard to lease that tower up

while that's possible, my guess would be that space is an intersticial mechanical floor separating the hotel/retail and office components of the building...
