They changed things up. New DC2, new development permit = new EDC visit!

Aren't the townhouses under construction already though? The presentation must be only for the tower portions then. Hopefully the design is an improvement then previously, the amount of stucco compared to glazing was quite sad...

Joking aside. A nice Edmonton success story, 6 retail locations already across western Canada. Good on them. The glass workshop will be a cool addition, hopefully it has a viewing area.
The company I'm working at is getting a new headquarters. Just needs the planning department's approval and we can kick it into motion.

The 1st 4 story 153 unit building is about 75% comlete. The 2nd low rise it a mirror version of the 1st, the pakade is done and above grade work is just starting.

The high rises got their excavation permit, and right now they look to be 1 to 2 levels down for both the tower sites.

The towers will likely be two more BK specials but I am okay with that. This area can use some denisty to drive ammenities and interest in the several other redevelopment sites and this project, at 750 units total, should help immensely.

I think it'll prove to be a popular project due to it's central location, easy LRT access and killer views.

Never heard of it before, but I hope the architect's website design isn't indicative of what level of design will be seen there.

Yeah that area is definitely improving by leaps and bounds. The Stadium Area Redevelopment and Commonweatlh Rec Centre are really adding to the area's livability. Add in The Quarters and the whole stretch east of 97th to 82nd will be bumping in 5-10 years.

Cannot find anything public so I have to bite my tongue for now... but let me say this, for all of our sakes I hope it has evolved.

Sorry to bring Shaw back to light in the Edmonton thread, but I'm not sure why Shaw having money to build a new building would be a surprise.
They may have lost some customers when Telus optik tv was rolled out, but their revenues and net income is still growing. Shaw's revenue has grown from $2.4 Billion CDN to almost $5 Billion CDN in the last 7 years. Their net income has been up and down but is still in the hundreds of millions.

Also, Shaw is only taking up the 12 floors of office space in the base of the new building, and the top couple of adjoining top floors (to be used for employee facilities). The other floors will be condo residential.

On a side note, not sure which company you work for, but I can guess I've heard rumblings that said competitor is building something new in Calgary. Something very similar to said competitor's new Vancouver project. Stay tuned.
Telus has announced plans for new headquarters in Vancouver, Montreal, and a repurposing of the Edmonton location - I'd find it hard to see them building something brand new in Calgary, as from what I understand they actually have far less employees in C-Town versus E-Town.

But, could be true, and wouldn't surprise me if they did, considering Calgary is usually where the "fancy" towers are built.

Head out of bum developers, come on...

City scales back area for downtown levy

BY ELISE STOLTE, EDMONTON JOURNAL FEBRUARY 28, 2013 3:19

City administrators have scaled back the boundaries for the downtown community revitalization levy, a key funding mechanism for the proposed downtown arena.

After consulting with provincial officials, the city removed several blocks centred around 101st Street and Jasper Avenue, an area already built up with office towers. The change scales back their high-end projections of what would be collected under the levy over its 20-year life from $1.6 billion to $1.1 billion.

The low end project to $612 million. The number was $807 million when city administrators ran the numbers and included those blocks of office towers last July.

Not sure if it will end up being building related at all but the Feds are having some announcement about "support for Arts and Culture in Edmonton" tomorrow at the Edmonton Opera Production facility.

As far as employee numbers go, there are more in Edmonton, but not more, and Calgary actually has more management employees.

A quick Wikipedia of Telus vs Shaws profits and revenues may settle the question of who is in "decline".
