To my knowledge SHAW does not service its pubic from off-shore. And I have had my battles with them. I have since made my peace when the brought out their free SHAW go wifi, which is VERY handy when out and about...given my cell provider (Rogers) has the worst LTE signal downtown or anywhere near the University. Telus recently installed "in building" cellular extenders or something like at the UofA inside the buildings to improve signal...I heard To bad Rogers has not...or improved service in the Core and River Valley.

^ I had a Starchoice system that I bought in '97 when I lived up on a ski hill... back then it was in independent satellite provider out of Nova Scotia and it was awesome. When I moved to Edmonton I had a new system put it, but Starchoice was bought by Shaw. They didn't have the same features as it did pre-Shaw and the customer service was terrible. I cancelled it last year and got Telus Optik. The customer service is much better but the system itself 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. I miss my Starchoice dish Too bad Shaw is 🞵🞵🞵🞵 a crappy company to deal with.

I had Rogers for cellular, and sitting at my desk, two feet from the window on the 17th floor of our building I had no service. Switched to Koodo... $45/mo, great signal downtown and everywhere else, 500Mb data and unlimited everything else. Works great on my 4S... I'd recommend it.

^^ As for the comment about Jan Reimer.... I wasn't here during that time but I'd heard that the climate was not very business friendly. I'd say Keats' comment is fair to those of us that know some of the history.

But I agree with Excal.. those are not an overly attractive towers... I think the joined at the top bit is somewhat new (to us) so it gets some "oohhh's" and "aaahhhh's" We like sparkly things here on SSP

I think the KR tower here in Edmonton will turn out much nicer

Is this the very very very very last chance for Dialog to redeem itself after the Berlin Wall on Jasper at 97th?

^ Don't forget.. They also did our new office building/ control tower at EIA.

That hall D Jasper Ave frontage is a huge SNAFU no doubt. But I doubt it would have been built that way if it were done today.

Potholes the size of 'craters' open yawning gap in road budget

Alexandra Zabjek
Edmonton Journal

Thursday, February 28, 2013

Edmonton's worst pothole season in five years has left the city's transportation department tinkering with its budget to find up to $12 million for emergency road repairs.

Coun. Amarjeet Sohi on Wednesday asked the department for $10 million to $12 million to use in a "grind and pave" program to tackle some of the city's worst streets...

The Edmontonian has movement again? Like I said the last time that the EDC agenda was released: why are all of these projects that have been stuck in limbo all of a sudden seeing movement?

It's also at least the third time it's been in for a pre-consultation. I don't have a lot of hope based on client/architect that it's going to be very nice.

Joking aside. A nice Edmonton success story, 6 retail locations already across western Canada. Good on them. The glass workshop will be a cool addition, hopefully it has a viewing area.

It's nice to see some of these projects finally moving. As much as we talk about the Shaw Stapler we do have a lot to look forward to in the next few years. I sat in My wifes office last night and just imagined what is to come.

Just think of what these areas are going to look like in 3 or 4 years.

Quarters and Museum

Arena District

Arts Campus. with Blachford in the distance

Edgewater is the projects that was previously known as RK East right? If so, isn't the project already under construction?

Very exciting time for the city indeed. Although the sea of parking downtown is detrimental in its current state, it offers a "blank slate" that allows all of these large developments to take place without many barriers.

Can't wait to move downtown after university, very excited! Hopefully more young professionals and other demographics will see this dynamism as well and follow suit.

Also, lookee what popped up all of a sudden:

C.3. 18:15 Astorian Rezoning
Tamon Architecture - Erfrey Tamon
10080 - 122 Street (5 lots) behind planet organic

Never heard of it before, but I hope the architect's website design isn't indicative of what level of design will be seen there.
