Expansion of the north-east corner of the campus (Site 8) with two large courtyard buildings structured along an east west spine with primary frontages towards the lake (See Figure C-44). The buildings envisioned in this plan are intended to create a new residential precinct that supports the viability and year-round use of amenities on campus, diversifies the housing options, and provides a relocation and expansion of the current daycare facility. The massing of the residences is configured as slim L-shaped buildings of three to four storeys in height. Two of the four buildings have a tower component at the corners, creating an overall building height of 10 to 12 storeys. The massing focuses height inward towards the colleges and transitions down toward the lake to optimize views to both it and the park, and to respect the character of the existing buildings fronting University Drive North. The buildings define two significant recreational open spaces for the North Campus, and are structured along the North-South Pedestrian Mall. The building configuration frames views, provides east-west connections to FNUniv and the Language Institute buildings, and provides a new welcoming interface and access both internally and externally.

The Ed Auditorium was stripped to bare bones and fully renovated as well, but that's not really a new building.

Oh yeah, agreed. I took many of my engineering classes in there. Dark, smelly and the majority of the seats had graffiti scratched into them or the seat cushions ripped. Definitely an embarrassment for the University.

Also, just had a thought as I was driving past the SGI Tower this morning. I wonder what the feasibility is of connecting it to the Delta via the top of the Cornwall Centre and developing the whole area into a large convention centre/shopping complex. This would allow for use of the upper level of the Cornwall Centre. I say this, as on first blush, I think the SGI building is better suited to conversion to hotel use as opposed to condos. Office towers don't seem to convert well into condos in my opinion-they almost always look like a office bulding with people squatting in them.

Great news about Rock Creek expanding into the Normanview. They've recently opened a 2nd location in Saskatoon. Nice to see a Regina-based company like this growing.

This is an interesting project by the same Edmonton group that is building the office building at Albert and 11th:

for example:

The Marilyn package also boasts black leather flooring, gloss white cabinetry, a red quartz countertop, and a "bling-like backsplash," said Melanie Gaboriault, interior designer on the project. "I'm sure Marilyn would be proud!"

That actually sounds pretty fantastic. I like the prices, too. I don't know that I'd want to live in Harbour Landing, though...

Hmm...Could be, but I definitely think it could be done tastefully. Especially if you keep furnishings fairly simple and understated. It might sound over the top, but I think it could turn out quite well.

Did you ever see Munro's Waterford show home a couple of years ago? In theory, rhinestones on the bedroom wall, mirrored furniture, tons of silver/chrome accents, jeweled cushions, etc., sounds ostentatious. But in reality, that house was gorgeous.

I did not, and it does sounds over the top. I believe you that it was gorgeous though!

I do agree that it won't suit everyone's taste. I can also see it looking tacky if people arent careful when it comes to decorating. Leather floors would be pretty great though.

I've never heard of leather floors before.....sounds great but as I look at the leather soles of my shoes I can see the "black" changing to the same grungy grey my shoe soles are in no time. Doesn't take much of a bump to put a discolored scuff on the uppers either.

Anyone else find it odd that the leader post article states the four storey office building on Albert and 11th is completed and tenants moved in. Last time I drove by, yesterday, it was covered in tarps and still building it.

I noticed today that the parkade behind the Regina Inn is being demolished.

You can also see through the windows that they are taking everything inside down to the studs. This will be a brand new hotel when it reopens as a Hilton Doubletree.
