Nowhere did i say it "has to be a truly amazing piece of architecture". While i was skating it was my opinion that it "is an amazing piece of architecture". My opinion only regarding the exterior architecture of the building. Don't read more into what i said.

The Scotia Bank stage looks like it belongs on the Red River Ex grounds it truly is horrid and is the ugliest thing at the Forks by far.

I heard on the news some time ago (when the lights first went on) that these were the permanent tower lights, they were to be left on for X number of hours in order to "burn in" the lamps to give them a longer life.

That makes sense, several days ago I saw that the lights were off. So it seems like X number of hours has happened?

Past weekend though I was at a friends engagement party and met one of the construction engineers of the building. We had an excellent conversation about the building and design, and since I am not a professional in any of that stuff it was really neat to hear how they did what they did. She was very proud of the work they accomplished.

Funny thing was she knew everything about the building (given her work), from what the interior will look like once finished to the displays they have decided on and how they will do it...but the one thing she didn't know about were the lights (i.e. how the entire lighting will be done in the finished building)



edit: well, looky here. Apparently there are 34 tower lights that were "burned in" for 100 hours. No further information on the lighting is really given, if there is anything more to the tower of hope such as a light beacon.

curiously, it implies the burn in was 100 hours from Dec 17 to the 21st. I've seen it lit up throughout Janurary, but it was off just before I left city.

the place is amazing, I like it a lot. I just hope when she is all lite up and landscaped, she is a real treasure. But that inside is well done.

I agree. I know a sample size of one is pretty meaningless but my wife's aunt from Montreal who's never been to Winnipeg plans on coming to visit to see the museum when it's complete. So it is getting on the radar across the country.

Yep and replace it with a new Rainbow Stage and add some of the same summer programming they have at the assiniboine park stage.

And build a pier for the Paddlewheel and Red River Cruise boats so everyone can just park at the forks and dine there and at the Esplanade Riel new french restaurant.

Now that you point that out, it seems such an obvious good idea that it begs the question of why it hasn't been done.

I drove past the East side of the Museum and looked at the square glass facade facing Sir William Stephenson. At night the interior staircases are lit up and can be seen from the street.

I will be doing the same! Also because of the journey to Churchill exhibit at APZ! Both will be open by summer 2014 I think right?

The riverboats have been always treated poorly by the city. Plus they have taken a hit in recent years by very poor river conditions and the establishment of the water tour operation at The Forks.

Piers or fixed docks do not work well given the huge variance of river levels. The best setup is a hard sloping surface like the area the Paddlewheel ships use near the Redwood Bridge.

The interior looks AMAZING. It just doesnt read well on camera because there is nothing in the images for scale.

You my friend, should find a new hobby, maybe you should get in to architecture?

I'm not a fan of the concept of human rights, or the museum, but while the outside is a bit of a let down, it does look striking on the inside. And I have to agree with the prevailing sentiment that you never say anything that isn't negative. Do you do it on purpose?
