Exactly. Spot on.
Sadly, that wasn't the objective. The objective was to satisfy demands from (literally) cane-holding local residents who wanted no one in any of the hotel rooms to have a view into their backyards/windows. That's why the blank walls. They also complained about the height. That's why it's split in three, to make it look shorter, and why each window blends together two floors to make it look shorter than it is.
AND the demands of a Heritage Protection Committee that, simply because this vacant plot of land is currently in a Heritage Residential zone, believes it should be faux (read: tacky) heritage. That's why the fake brick.
The entire exterior is just plain, ****ing ugly. Even if the shape of the building was attractive... it's a suburban ****hole hotel, NOT suitable for one of the most prominent places in our skyline.
