There is access from outside the mall just east of The Bay's 11th Avenue entrance. None of this makes it very convenient to access from inside the mall, though. I would think that it would take a major reno to make that third floor usable by anyone but The Bay. I suppose they could put stairs/escalators outside The Bay (would likely have to take over part of one or both of the service hallways there, though) going up to the third floor but it still wouldn't be very visible from the mall unless they opened it up somehow. I wonder if they would ever consider expanding that third floor to include the whole mall?

StarTek still holds the lease on that space, so don't count on anything happening with it for some time.

I believe their lease is almost up. They were trying to sublet for some time.

SaskTel has been authorized to borrow up to $30 million for a new data centre to be built in Regina, according to a provincial government order-in-council from last week's meeting of the provincial government cabinet.

"We do plan on having a big formal announcement once we get final agreements," said Darcee MacFarlane, SaskTel vice-president of corporate and government relations.

"This is just the structure of how we want to legally structure this and finance it... It's kind of a little bit of the cart before the horse."

SaskTel has been in the data centre business since the early 2000s and the capacity available in its existing facility in Regina is used by the Crown corporation itself and sold to customers, MacFarlane said.

"This is actually going to be another brand new data centre for SaskTel," she said. "It's also going to be used to sell data hosting and cloud services commercially, as well.

"We are forming a partnership with a private company. It is a top-of-the-line data centre facility that would be in Saskatchewan once we have the agreements finalized."

The project has potential to generate revenue, MacFarlane said.

She noted while the $30 million, to be secured by a mortgage against the centre, is the upper limit, "all of the financial details will be fully released... once the agreement is signed.

I've heard it will be big SF and GB.

That building on 11th is an energy centre. Back up generators for phone system.

30m doesn't sounds like a fully racked out datacentre to me, I would guess that covers the building, power, and fiber rings to downtown.

This beauty is currently under construction in Springfield, Mass, and is estimated at 110 million.

I don't think we can expect much, so let's just hope it looks great.

^^ I think we could surely expect soemthing like that 50million dollar building. Remeber here in sk they always low ball the numbers lol and that wouldnt be just for sasktel, in the LP article it mentions selling some data capacity to other IT companys.

On another note just having time to think about the kaltire deal. So if the land was approved, im curious if they had there land then approved as well on the east side of the city, adjacent to highway 1 east on bothsides. Becuase both those areas, right next to the cemetary/behind it and right behind red head equip on the service road. Becuase both areas are designated as growth areas sooner rather than later according to the city growth plan. If thats the case regina is now consricted on basiclly all sides. Theres a small pockett in the north now between evraz and wasterwater plant and simply northalbert and south of wascana thats it. Harbourlanding wont procceed much into that area now i would think, due to probably needing a 500-1000m buffer cuz arent most tire plants heavy industrial?? Once again city of regina gets the shaft. Should have been built across from SGI compound, which is zoned for industrial use. I'll stop ranting

On the topic of development along Highway 1 east I've heard fragmentary fourth-hand suggestions that CTV is looking at relocating. Anyone heard anything about this?

It would make sence sometime in the near future if that were to happen. Due to the fact that the intersection there would be one day home to the southeast bypass and would require most liekly a double bridge, similar but prob more adanvced still then the GTH interchnage being built. So it would require a huge piece of land to construct it and currently theres not much room there on the east side of the highway with ctv/ vistor booth/camp ground all there.

That all makes sense, and so does the fact they have guests traveling out to the sticks, only to be greeted by a half empty building. But on the other hand they need to have a transmitter somewhere.

Starbucks won't open up more standalone coffee shops because they would have to be unionized due to the chapters location (I believe that's the story I heard). And if that's the reason, I don't see them changing their tune in the near future. I prefer it this way though... More independent shops (e.g. Atlantis).

Hopefully not another Naked Bean. Went there on the weekend just to check it out. Not impressed with the coffee or the food. Had an extremely overpriced, poor quality panini. The coffee and hot chocolate were luke warm and nor particularly tasty. Not wishing ill of anyone but this place will be TU in six months with these offerings. Won't be back. Lot of coffee shops recently opened in Regina but most are so so ! Atlanntis and one in the east side (can't remember the name) are probably the best. Wish a couple stand alone Starbucks would open. Not that they are great but they up the ante for others who want to open. The biggest issue with most is that they have real difficulty providing decent coffee shop food. The eating establishments in the Canterbury Common development are a real disappointment.

Im really just excited there is some sort of action at this location. It really is sad to see such a prime spot in the city in the heart of downtown, be up for lease for such a long time, (such was the case with the now lulu location). This spot has such a great street presence that its a shame to see it go to waste! Starbucks would be great but i really think having another restaruant such as flip with that kind of downtown atmosphere, opening up more in the heart of the core, would be even better for future developement, and help to increase the nightlife in the area.

That is too bad you had a bad experience, however, i would argue that since this place is new they are likely going through growing pains. That is very common with new restaurants/coffee shops and the good ones adjust and improve as they learn and become more experienced. Hopefully that is the case with this spot and that it can survive.

Well the sign is using the Starbucks colours, so they could be opening up there and they like prominent downtown locations. Either way it is good that something is going into that spot as it is a prime location. I also noticed that the vacant spot just west of the new LuluLemon has recently covered it's windows and it looks like there is some construction going on inside. It is not a big space but perhaps another retail outfit is opening up there as well..
