I have tried to be a supporter of the City Square Plaza, but it sure is frustrating. Today the City inexplicably barricaded 12th Av with no warning and for no apparent reason. Just what we need, more people doing u-turns downrtown in horrible road conditions. Also I cannot figure out why 12th and Lorne is still closed, even to pedestrians. Pedestrians must do a big detour through the Park and around the Library.

Further, it appears they are preparing to put the skating rink in the park rather than in the plaza. Again, was this not what the plaza was to be used for in winter?

At least we have this new Google shot of the giant hot dog truck on the plaza.

Kal Tire is announcing construction on the site just West of Regina will start in spring.

The R.M. of Sherwood and the City of Regina have been arguing about development around Regina for a while. That was threatening to drive the company's multi-million dollar facility away.

On Thursday, Kal Tire announced things have been settled, and the plan is going ahead.

John Mullin of Kal Tire says there are a few reasons they chose that area.

“We like the access to the highway, the visibility to the highway and the size of the site was just right for us in terms of our long-term growth allowing us to phase in that expansion as is needed,” said Mullin.

The current tire distribution centre can't handle all of Saskatchewan's demand, but the new one will serve all of Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

They expect to break ground by this spring, and be done building by spring of 2014
Does anyone have an idea just where this Kal tire site is proposed for? how far west of Pinkie? I have a bad feeling about this and I am imagining an unsightly mountain of tires right beside #1 that manages to catch fire every 5yrs or so. mmmmm, burning rubber.
Why is visibility from the highway important for a distribution facility - its not like they are going to want to reel in retail shoppers? I hope I'm wrong.

Their existing distribution centre is right on the Ring Road and McDonald. It is quite neat and tidy. It is not a tire recycling facilty.

I was watching the news the other day about the condition of the barns for Agribition. To me it is an embarrassment the shape they are in. There are people coming here from all over the world and that is all we can offer them? Would it not be worth replacing these with some up to date multifunction buildings. We have already lost the royal red because of this, allthough I am not sure if it brought in a whole lot anyway. Agribition brings in millions to the economy every year, maybe even attract some new trade shows?

Here is a map that shows the 2 locations that the RM wants to develop. The southwest area is where the kal tire plant will go i believe, if they havent changed it.

Agribition Facilities

I agree with Goldenant. It was mentioned again on the CTV Regina News at 6:00pm tonight. As one rancher put it yesterday, this is a world-class show in less-than-world-class facilities. It certainly is embarrassing.

Just how BIG is this thing going to be if it doesn't fit into the land set aside for the GTH?

Well the one in Chilliwack is 250,000 square feet on 18 acres. In Regina they say they want 100 acres to allow for expansion.

That is a big warehouse. About the size of two Walmarts.

So what happened to Regina's concern that this project will be on land that the city will possibly need for residential,in the future? The mayor had an issue with this but that seems to have been resolved but not reported on after the province stepped in.

I believe Kal Tire is proposing to build on the west side of the new bypass, about where you see the curve below:

SARM office building

Does anyone know what is going on with the SARM office building proposed for Rose and 13th? They bought the land and applied for city approval, but their website states construction was to start in the Spring of 2012 and nothing has happenned. So not sure if still a go or planning is taking longer than first thought.

Week ago I noticed that a bunch of spruce trees had been cut down by the Victoria Ave west ward off ramp near that future shop/sawing place? Are they finally planing to developed that lot?

Also was getting gas today and noticed there working on the old Arbys building. Doing roof work, etc. All the signs are now finally gone.

Anybody have any idea how they're going to continue putting new stores in Cornwall ie: Bath & Body Works and Sephora? I can't see where they'd go currently... Boes just took over the J. Michaels spot. I wonder if some leases are up and some stores will leave

Also, the old Colin O'Brian/ One Tooth spot is begging to be properly redeveloped. With Havik and Lululemon it would really start to add some life. We need more great places like Norwood but a chain like American Apparel or something would be good too...

I wonder if the old Eaton's third floor last occupied by StarTek call centre could be somehow redeveloped as retail. I'm not sure if it's accessible except from the roof of the parkade.
