There is nothing more I would like to see than a successful YEG. However, with all the dithering, inter jurisdictional disputes, and lack of concrete action, I believe we missed the boat ( or in this case airplane). Other airports are using ths to develop their areas which will be to the detains te of any plans EIA or PA have or had.

And most of that dirt moving is apparently for retail and offices, which do support, but are not directly cargo or value add development.

I actually disagree with you on most of these statements. The ERAA of yesterday did miss out out on the opportunities of developing YEG due to city and county issues, the muni, and other issues. However in the last few years the airport (YEG) has been fighting a pretty good fight to get where it is today. For a city our size, located close to YYC a hub for the two major airlines in Canada...we're doing pretty good...and luckily us and the ERAA know we can do better.

Logistic support which they building right now is going to be huge. Like others say I don't think people realize how much is going on in this area, and how if done correctly this could still be a huge thing.

I don't understand people looking at the Youtube clips and judging the ERAA and Port Alberta so harshly without knowing the full story. Now that 41Ave is started, the CP yard is well underway, and Nisku continues to develop north with the "borders" Edmonton is well postioned.

My hope is that Edmonton can start focusing more of these industrial areas around Nisku and dedicated areas, and hopefully clean up Edmonton image as a large Industrial park surrounded by housing developments. (SE/NW Edmonton in particular)

That is where the majority of Industrial growth will happen. All the industrial land that sat underused for most of my life in the SW around 75th, 50th, and 34th is quickly getting developed. The Maple Ridge Area between 34th street and AHD (north of Whitemud) has some major servicing issues and will take deep pockets to develop. There is only a small parcel of unserviced industrail land by the dump and that will probably be developed soon (if it wasn't this year). The industrial area on the north edge of the city has numerous issues, not only with the group of people trying to save the land for agriculture purposes, but it will require massive upfront costs to service. I'm not to familiar with the west side of the city...

Pretty much makes the airport corridor the most logical choice.

Not sure if anybody has noticed, but there is a massive industrial development underway within the City of Leduc just north of the Telford lakes industrial park.

It also looks like most of Nisku was repaved this year as well.

The amount of new industrial activity in the area is staggering. Unfortunatly it never gets any attention

In route news:
MONTREAL, Oct. 18, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada today announced that it is boosting capacity on regional routes across Western Canada this fall and winter to meet demand. The airline will also be gradually introducing new state-of-the-art Bombardier Q-400 Next Gen aircraft operated by Air Canada Jazz under the Air Canada Express brand on key markets from Calgary and Edmonton beginning next year.

Increased services this fall and winter compared to last year include:

Calgary-Fort McMurray 7 daily (from 6 daily) 350 daily seats (from 300)
Calgary-Grande Prairie 5 daily (from 4 daily) 250 daily seats (from 200)
Calgary-Yellowknife 2 daily (from 1 daily) 100 daily seats (from 50)
Edmonton-Fort McMurray 7 daily (from 6 daily) 350 daily seats (from 300)
Edmonton-Regina 2 daily (from 1 daily) 100 daily seats (from 50)
Edmonton-Saskatoon 2 daily (from 1 daily) 100 daily seats (from 50)
Vancouver-Fort St. John 5 daily (from 4 daily) 250 daily seats (from 200)
Vancouver-Nanaimo 7 daily (from 6 daily) 350 daily seats (from 300)

In February, 2013, Air Canada will begin gradually deploying made-in-Canada Bombardier Dash 8 Q-400 NextGen aircraft on routes within Western Canada, replacing 50-seat CRJ aircraft. The new ultra-quiet, Q-400 aircraft featuring 74 all-leather seats with roomy overhead bins will initially be scheduled on the following routes:

Calgary-Fort McMurray February, 2013
Calgary-Regina February, 2013
Calgary-Saskatoon February, 2013
Calgary-Yellowknife April, 2013
Calgary-Grande Prairie March, 2013
Calgary-Victoria March, 2013
Calgary-Edmonton March, 2013
Edmonton-Fort McMurray March, 2013
Edmonton-Yellowknife April, 2013
Edmonton-Winnipeg May, 2013

Well we can agree to disagree. Keep in mind the logistics support is essentially replacing existing outdated 1960s facility. So far there does not appear to be any net gain in tenants or activity. Which is in stark contrast to YWG and YYC and YVR.

As far as the video it is wasted money and just pr, the real activity has to be face to face to get the business.

Are suggesting that the erra doesn't have face to face interaction with decision makers? If so that's a big assumption.

I would say that Edmonton has been slow getting things moving, but For once I have faith that they are moving in the right direction and we will be a unique port.

I've flown them and they are nothing like the current turbo props that Air Jazz dba Air Canada Express are using. The flight is really nice, and I actually prefer those to the CRJ100/200 that Air Canada is replacing.

Additional flights to places like Ft Mac, Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg are good things as many of these passengers will be connecting.

I dont understand you people. If I want to go to Seattle, and it takes me to Seattle, I would take it and give a shit about what kind of plane it is?
If I want to go to Winnipeg, and it is the only direct flight....

I think you mis-understood me... I was saying exactly what you are saying...plus the new turbo props are really nice.

The Q400 is awesome, forget what you know about riding in the old Dash-8's and enjoy the ride.

But it isn't the only non stop flight (I'm assuming you meant that rather than direct). Will that influence people's decisions?

I agree. I've flown the YEG-SEA a few times and enjoyed the prop. It's quite a nimble plane.

The noise of it will have an influence for sure. I have family and friends who will not fly those under any circumstances. Even travel agents point out is a prop and noisy...ensuring people make an informed choice. And while some on this forum think it is great to fly...and I have flown on a good many....its not my first choice simply due to the noise factor. Don't jump on me about it...unless your buying my plane tickets.
