This is true, doesn't mean it's insignificant though. Anyway that would be a discussion for another thread (like the weather thread), back to skylines!

Or here : https://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=fr&ll=51....l5UumSSSRIRMOTK65w&cbp=12,287.72,,0,8.72

Anyways, foothills or not, they're not far, and it's an unbelievable asset to this city to be that close of the great rockies!!

Compared to that, our little Laurentians north of Quebec city with some peaks of 1100-1200m is shameful lol

Edit : Oh by the way, could someone tell me why they're stopping the sprawl right here (was always wondering that) : https://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=fr&ll=50.9714,-114.170265&spn=0.081397,0.224361&gl=ca&t=k&z=13
Is it a conservation area of something ??
the mountains near QCity may be 1100 m...but Quebec city is at sea level, so those mountains are pretty high if their base is where Quebec city is.

The Rockies are very tall mountains....but the plains of Alberta are also very high. Calgary is at around 1100 m above sea level already....so you should really count the height of the rockies as x m above their base (subtract 1100 from the height of those mountains). That would be the maximum potential height you could climb/ski/sight see from etc.

Un peu plus loin vers l'ouest. King mountain trail.

Park was filled with leaf gawkers today.

The area in the foreground is part of the Tsuu T'ina Native Reservation that borders the deep Southwest of Calgary. This shot is about 22 Kilometres from downtown.

Even with the Canadiens tower and l'Avenue this vista will hardly change. The skyline will look drastically different when seen from the west and from the north.
