I didn't participate in the Undie Run (I had to work) but I went to the Green Pig that night and was caught quite off guard when I walked in. It was the craziest party I'd ever seen. Everyone had been drinking since the run ended (I assume) and so it was like MTV Spring Break.
Funny observation: All the girls smelled really nice, and all the guys smelled disgusting. I don't know how the ladies do it.

Notice that they have included TRAX down 4th South to the hub in the plan.

Here is what 300 South between Rio Grande Depot and the Intermodal Hub will look like on festival days (on festival days the streetcar will not run all the way to the Intermodal Hub).

On the street car: Honestly that is kind of lame. I don't think we need a street car that runs from 500w to 600w. I think people can manage to walk a whole block. I also don't like the idea of running it through the rio grand depot. That is a beautiful building that people should be able to go inside and enjoy. I also don't like the idea of loosing valuable parking on 300s ... I say no, no, no.

I do like the idea of a 400 south Trax explanation though.. They could run it all the way to main so that the red line could come through down town before going to the u..

There was not a breakdown of which buildings are what, but I believe most of the residential will be in mixed use buildings with retail on the ground level. For the two blocks there are plans for:

Residential: 604 Units--576,268 sq ft
Retail: 66,932 sq ft
Office: 605,120 sq ft
and 1858 parking stalls

Overall, i like it. I think this area is very under used and if this plan comes to fruition it would be HUGE for that part of downtown. I love the idea of the Red Line continuing all the way down 400 S and connecting to the intermodul hub. That makes more sense that all of the lines making the same trip through main street and south temple. It would also allow students to more easily utilize front runner and the red line together.
I somewhat agree that the 400 S line and a 300 S streetcar line might be overkill. I know streetcars have more frequent stops but I don't know that we need trains going up South Temple, 300 S and 400 S. In regards to the train going throug the Rio Grande Station, i think that it looks pretty cool in the rendering but i don't know that we should be altering a historic building in that way. With is being over 100 years old and on the national register, would they even be able to do that?

Also why does it always have to be be business, retail, residential mix... Can't we add something interesting in there like a museum... Or has anyone ever been to the exploratorium in San Francisco? Something like that would be cool.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to sound negative and will openly accept any redevelopment of the area... It just seems kind of like the same old thing.

The only part of that plan that I would actively protest is putting a street car through the rio grand... Whoever came up with that idea should be smacked.

I wonder if they will do anything with the building to the north of the grayhound building.. It looks similar to the greyhound building.... Although very unattractive and dilapidated... Not sure what you could do with it.. But I'm sure it's one of those things that can't be ripped down for some strange reason.

Any updates on the town homes that were suppose to be build on 400 south in front of pioneer park? Seems like the condos to the north of pioneer park have stalled again...

Overall I like the concept, I don't even mind the idea of street car runing through the depot. It's a very creative way to bring back the relationship of the depot and trains. It looks as if there will still be parking on 300 S, at least that is what the one rendering shows. The concept plan of the street car lines has the street car jogging up to 2nd South either on 500 W or 400 W, (i've read both versions) and then continuing east to 200 E with a jog north to Harmons.

I like the idea of street car cutting e/w through downtown and eventually all the way over to 900 East on either 100 S or 200 S.

As for the 4th S Trax line, I like the idea of the "White" line running from Central Station directly to the U and back.

The "Market District" could really be one of Salt Lake City's most unique and lively districts. As for the museum or something being built in the area, this is where the Living Planet Aquarium wanted to be for the first many years of their existance, even before they had a temporary location at The Gateway. It was originally proposed for the NW corner of the 500 W 400 S intersection. There are museum type places in the area, just not right on these two blocks, the Childrens Museum and Clark Planetarium, two blocks north east isn't really that far away, especially with Trax service.

One of the major aspects of the plan that I love is the streets that cut through the mid block on both blocks. If done correctly, each of these streets could have a high amount of pedestrian traffic and it's own little bit of character.

Putting a street car through the middle of the rio grande is creative alright.. But it's also destructive. That is a historic old building that is worth preserving... AS IS. I find the idea unacceptable and kind of insulting.. In fact I think there are a lot of locals who will not go for that.

I personally agree with DCRes that a 300 south street car is over kill.. But if it has to happen then there is no reason that it can't terminate in front of the rio grande.

I always though it would be cool to have a street car in the form of a trolly that terminated at trolly square and went down town and terminated at gateway/ rio grande... Although I know it's unrealistic... Just an old idea I thought would have been cool at the time.

The aquarium would have been cool.. I would still like something like the exploratorium... The planetarium has nothing on that place.

I was flipping through the tv channels last night here in Portland, and I came across a channel showing the Parkour video of the guys in the costume. It was shown on the spanish channel Estrella TV? and the show was Alarma TV. I don't speak spanish, so the only work I understood was parkour. But, I thought that was very interesting that they were showing this parkour video of downtown Salt Lake City.

Love it. That area needs alot of help and I always hated having our Hub right in the middle of a rundown scary part of town. Sure I know that area would be fixed up at some point, but it's nice to finally see some light on what those blocks could look like.
Also having a streetcar going through Rio Grande Depot is a cool idea. If that's the case then I hope there would be a station inside. That would be cool.

Not connecting the street car to the intermodal hub would be an absolute waste. Why have it if it's not going to connect?

Good news on the 222 front. The northern most retail space is under construction, Image Yes Optical.

I won't be surprised to see the other fill up within the next 6-12 months. I really hope to see a restaurant open up in the south space next to the fireplace.

I don't like the idea of the streetcar going through the Rio Grande either. Isn't the plan for the streetcar to head up 2nd south? Why not use the track already in place to connect to the hub until 4th west when the lines would separate?

That is actually the orginal idea that I heard. I do however like the idea of going along 3rd S, north on 5th W, using the existing tracks to 400 W and then continue to 200 E.

I love the plans!! I especially like the idea of putting the Streetcar through the Rio Grande Depot... YEEESSS...OF COURSE!! Let's hope this is realized. This is a beautiful Depot that has sat as a stagnant, pale reminder of a glorious past for far too long. Now, it will literally have a London/Parisian euro- style rail entry right through it's very heart. I am so hopeful and excited for this.

Got it, I don't think I would be vehemently opposed to this option, but if I had my preference I would say use existing track. I do however love that they're including the idea of trax running up 4th south to the U from the Hub. Additionally I would think the Granary spur of the streetcar could use this track until 4th West before heading to the 9th south station.
