I understand the hate of the loser clientele that hung out there and the previous owners who let that place turn into a shit hole...nobody wants those in their neighbourhood. But I just dont get the hate of the building itself. It's like saying the Strat or the Commie are black eyes on whyte ave....they are two of the only tolerable bars (Commie > Black dog > Strat >>>>>>everything else). With the neighbourhood quickly gentrifying around it, it could have turned into a pretty eclectic place to grab an Old Stock or Blue.

I've never been inside it, but I would assume it was similar to most of the old hotel bars. Large and set up to accomodate live music with carpets that drip 60 years of history. Such a waste.

Because it was a bland, boring, windowless brick bunker that offered nothing redeeming to 118th Ave. You can't even compare interesting old historical buildings like the Strathcona or Commercial to this pile of 1950s shit. Inside is nicer, but the outside of the building was a huge problem.

^I dunno, but they are really getting out of hand. I fucking cannot stand how many places have them or other vinyl up on their front windows all but blocking any chance of actually looking in or seeing real people face to face.

Over the last few years there has been all kinds of work done along 118th Ave to educate all the businesses to remove posters and clutter from their windows to make the street more friendly. And it has worked. Shopper's shouldn't be allowed to do this.

It looks like most theatres without a marquee. A little love and this building would of added a lot more to the ave than a sterile lifestyle poster covered drug store.

^^those are elevations.... they often include signage etc for visual purposes.

But either way, i'd love for the community league to request a meeting to discuss these.

At least it's only parking & 82st that looks like it will have the lifestyle posters. 118ave elevations look clean. Still don't think they should be there (specifically 82st side), but as long as 118ave is clean, it's a start.

The addition made to the building made it an intolerable bunker. It was so haphazard and so ill-thought out that the prospective clientele worsened at the moment they saw it. It was just that bad.

EDMONTON - Jobs and newcomers are boosting home construction in the Edmonton region to levels not seen since the early 2000s, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

Housing starts in the Edmonton census metropolitan area for July surged to 1,435, up from 1,034 in July 2011.

“Housing starts in Edmonton continue to be supported by employment growth and net migration,” said David Lan, CMHC senior market analyst for Edmonton.

Lan pointed to Statistics Canada figures showing net migration to Alberta jumped to 22,067 people in the first quarter of 2012, compared to the 8,983 in the same quarter in 2011.

1M setback from 118th ave and 82 street as per the AB Ave overlay, parking on the east side and the back. This is unfortunately why they moved the entrance to the east front side.
