^The UW does not have a green space though, that was the motivation for this. This site came about from the municipal reserve disposition from the Arena Lands. The City purchased this site and one in Central McDougal in exchange. We really liked this site as it would be a good central park for CBD, grant mac, mckay and the UW. It is intended to offer a different experience from the more forest like Beaver Hills.

As for the 'central park' catalyst project from the CCDP, it may still happen, but it is far more of a long term project and one that is incredibly more complex.

You are so lucky to have the pricing you do. $900K won't buy you much of a good 2-bed condo in downtown Vancouver.

One certainly does get better value in Edmonton. (don't want to derail this thread). Unfortunately, I wouldn't live in what 600-700 gets you here. Shoeboxes with hobos for neighbours.

Interesting. Need to see other elevations, because there's suggestions that the nice treatment we see from this angle might not be as pleasing to the eye (is that punched windows I see on the right edge of the existing view?).

Historicist podium seems silly with the modern tower design above it. No relation whatsoever.

In this case I like the podium to be honest and keep in mind it is the HA ('heritage') area.

I believe they are using window wall, but perhaps it is curtain in part.

I don't know if it's silly, it's by-law:

"new developments [shall be] pedestrian friendly and compatible in scale, function, built form and design continuity with the historical, architectural and urban village character of the area." 910.7.1

The corner windows on the podium add just enough of a contemporary touch to relate to the tower IMO. I will say that it did look a little more modern with the original sand-coloured brick that was originally put forward, but what can you do.

EDMONTON - Karl Kovacs’ bungalow in the Argyll neighbourhood is like many other Edmonton homes — a small front porch and a tidy front yard on a pleasant tree-lined street. Yet Kovacs’ home features something different. On his roof, glinting in the bright spring sunshine, are 24 solar-electric modules that generate electricity for the Kovacs’ home.

“I have always loved solar. I was tinkering around with solar kits when I was a kid at science fairs,” says Kovacs. When Enmax’s Generate Choice solar program was announced, Kovacs pestered them until he got a system.

One of Enmax’s goals with the Generate Choice program was to remove all of the hurdles that prevent consumers from investing in solar energy.

It’s Alberta’s first off the shelf solar system. You call Enmax, choose a price plan, sign a lease and they secure permits, install the system and connect it to the grid.

I rather like the 'historicist' podium, especially on that block. It is pedestrian friendly.

Noticed on my way home that the fence went up around Dub's sight on the corner of 107 and 104 today. Hopefully we'll be seeing this go up sooner than later.
