Interestingly enough I just met with the planner for this DC2 application. The community league is very concerned about some of the aspects of this proposal, mainly the character house on the corner and its mature trees. We will be following up with them quite regularly.

It's too bad they want to rip down a house and trees when there is a perfectly developable gravel lot right across the street.

EDMONTON - New neighbourhoods already approved by Edmonton city council will cost the city an additional $1.2 billion for fire halls, parks, police stations and libraries, says a new report that gives the numbers for the first time.

“Oh my God, that’s not including the LRT,” said Coun. Linda Sloan, hearing the figures for the first time. “It just shows the city is not sustainable. We can’t continue to grow the way we are.”

City councillors have approved development in more than 44 new neighbourhoods on the fringes of the city without knowing how much services for these neighbourhoods would cost. The growth co-ordination strategy, released in draft form this week, quantifies the cost for the first time.

Oh I think you'd be surprised who's looking in this area.

I noticed the the Ultima sales centre is almost ready to go. It actually looks really good. They've completely covered the sloped roof with marketing signage. It's VERY noticable from 104 Ave.

Is this 40 storey tower going to EDC for review?

It could sound like this.

As a East West North and South gateway to the Downtown, Jasper and 109st site needs to set a precedent for high quality urban design, and pedestrian oriented development within the Downtown. The current detail provided within the package does not show adequate design resolution to be confident that a high quality design will be achieved. More careful consideration needs to be taken into the integration of the surrounding context into the design.

I'm glad to see this going ahead. I'm not qualified to comment on the design, but this is a prime property for a four-storey building.
