Maybe in an alternative universe, where the hamlet finally wears long pants.

^I highly doubt it. I never heard any rumour like that, also too if there were any truth to that rumour then why isn't it still on the table because if the city was given a basket full of money to build LRT I'm pretty certain that they would jump all over it. Even if it's not part of their current plan free money to do a project like that would push the priority in that projects favour.

You have until May 7th to add comments in regard to W & SELRT plans, and neighbourhood integration. Please take a minute and offer some comments if you fall into the catchment areas. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9LN8J2L

As suggested in the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters latest newsletter, noting the need for strong integration with cycling infrastructure, and trains that work well with multi-modal trips, is important.

What a giant hassle this morning getting from Stadium to Churchill with reduced frequency.... train was packed full by the time it got to Stadium, dumb uni kids with their backpacks on blocking the doors, sat on the track at 92st for a few minutes, train ran slow all the way through the tunnel, then pedestrian gridlock at Churchill as the escalator is still down and everyone trying to get up the stairs.

At least seeing the 5 car trains was cool. I'll be riding my bike starting tomorrow

The city will formulate plans for its LRT expansion this week. The mayor says there is the money on the books to get it done.

"I don't think we need to borrow money to build this," said Mayor Stephen Mandel.

"My belief is that when you look at our capital budget and available dollars from 2015 to 2017, if we believe LRT is a priority, we can allocate a substantial sum of those dollars to build the LRT in that period with our share and make sure its built with out borrowing money."

Cost to get from downtown to Mill Woods is $1.8 billion, with the city's share $800 million according to a report going to Wednesday's city council meeting.

By then Mandel says major projects will be off the books.

"We'll be finished building rec centres, we'll be finished the libraries, we'll be finished building major road improvements, so the time has come in that window to take a look at how we can allocate the money that doesn't impact us in the long term"

Mandel worries that getting too far into debt will impact their ability in future years to build other LRT to the west end, St. Albert, and eventually to Sherwood Park.

God i hope so. LRT really needs to get into high gear if this city really wants to change habits.

Shafraaz tweeted that yesterday. Did he take it? Is that all LRT staging along the north side of the line?

Staples: Sohi’s LRT dream is right vision for Edmonton

BY DAVID STAPLES, EDMONTONJOURNAL.COM MAY 11, 2012

EDMONTON - When Edmonton Transit bus driver Amarjeet Sohi ran for city council in 2007, he would meet people on their doorsteps in Mill Woods and talk hopefully about bringing the LRT to that community. And the people would roll their eyes at him.

“They said, ‘OK, what are you going to do? We’ve been waiting for 20 years,’ ” says Sohi, who has now been on council for four years. “There was a lot of pessimism and giving up attitude that this will never happen.”

The bleak view of LRT expansion has also been rampant in Edmonton’s west end, but with good reason. When you go back into the archives of this newspaper, you’ll see stories from the late 1970s where city politicians argue over plans to build the LRT line to West Edmonton Mall.

Tried the Route 747 both ways now, albeit in a reverse fashion. I took the ETS route back into Edmonton on the 21st as I said would, and now I just took the same route back to the airport (flying to YVR this afternoon). No problems on this route both ways, or in getting to/from home via bus/LRT for that matter.

FYI, The stop at YEG is between Doors 7 and 8, right on the curb in front of where the SkyShuttle buses stop. This is even better than where the C-Line bus stops (near Door 10 and you have to cross over to the second curb). Just watch out if you don't like cigarette smoke - the Route 747 stop is right in a an area where smoking is allowed.

City hall seeks LRT style advice
Residents asked for input on look of stations

Elise Stolte
Edmonton Journal

Thursday, May 31, 2012

Brick veneer or powder-coated steel? Tile or stone for the columns?

As city hall works through the finer details of LRT station planning, Edmonton residents are being asked to weigh in on a select set of questions.

Station size and locations have been approved, and now city staff are heading into communities to let residents modify the station look and help it fit into the community. Mill Woods residents get the chance to speak up Thursday night...
