There is a fine line for AC and WS on serving to many non-stop flights from focus cities, not hubs. When they start adding routes from YEG, YOW, and YWG... that they service from their hubs YYC, YYZ, YVR, those route need to be strong enough to support the decrease in traffic coming from the focus cities. YEG, is being serviced fairly well by the Star Alliance (United/Air Canada) transborder flights and WS. My question is were would AC fly from YEG to the US and using what aircraft? LAX the loads aren't strong enough for two carriers. We have seen that route served by US airways, Canadian, Air Canada, and now ws. And when you get the route, where are you going to find a plane big enough to fly the route. Remember Air Canada does not have a surplus of narrow body planes right now, their focus is on short hops in the east and International.

As alluded on c2e by me, If welfAir Canada would stop putting up metals to try and stop a competitor's route, do research on all markets and established destinations that people require. They're too busy focussing on complete domination and as a result, failed in their own business. If the demand in Edmonton can fill up an airplane to a certain destination, why would you take them to a hub? Why duplicate procedures- gasoline, take off and landing fees are not cheap and that itself, impedes their profits. Take offs consume an incredible amount of energy.

You do realize that Air Canada is actually one of the most respected airlines in North America? Sure they don't service Edmonton how you would like, but let me tell you that they have worked with United on the routes we have to the states...without air canada United would not have entered our market like they did in 2002.

While we all respect your passion for Edmonton and the International Airport, your rants and name calling discredit your insights.

Global was doing live reports from the airport during the passenger test run of the new US/transborder terminal. From what I saw, the terminal looks impressive!

Here are some pictures from today's trial run. It seemed like a pretty popular event. There were people of all ages taking part. I think the interior colors look great.

Looks phenomenal!

Would have liked to seen a little more glass in some areas but overall it's a very impressive expansion. Now I would like to see the old terminal brought up to the same standard.

Someone should post these on the Canada board in the airport thread.

That last picture is where the glass bridge walkway was suppose to be that got axed? I remember seeing a cool rendering of a double helix public art piece there I think (a place holder obviously). It would be a great place for a nice work IMO.

Point taken...I lost complete confidance for them both on personal experiences and on behalf of Edmonton's delima with them. I don't expect our city to become their hub, but they have a duty to serve Edmonton with more than what they have given us. This airline is not a public enterprise, but it is a government financed airline. I have lost an incredible amount of monetary investment due to them, and their attitude towards me has been 'too bad.'
Just hearing their name leaves a sour taste in my mouth. That said, should they reassessed their commitment to our city, with better service, Im willing to lighten my attitude towards them- monetary lost and all...Major Canadian cities in our country require air service for the factor of economics and international presentation. First image is everything in accordance to human nature. When one degraded me, such as this company, it is pretty hard to look at them with any sense of civility. Last time I have flown with them was 2002. Eversince then, I have taken the liberty of selecting West Jet first and foremost; followed by American Airlines in North America. Internationally, I have of options.

I do not see from the pictures or comments that there is a private lounge (pay per use) in US area. Can anyone that attended advise on this? The EJ is saying there will be new pay for use lounges in domestic and international - but did not mention US hold. Without one...well lets just say its not on the standard as other major Canadian airports.

When CTV News did their piece on the trial, I saw a glimpse of a gate sign for a Delta flight to New York City.
A hint of things to come, maybe?
