As a resident one block south of the RGH this parkade, if true, would be a very welcome addition. Parking during the day is an absolute nightmare, most of the on-street parking is monopolized all day by workers at the hospital (but they don't really have another option) leaving next to nil parking for residents and users of the hospital. The parkade really should have been done during the last big expansion at the hospital, but I guess better late than never. I hink the city really needs to look into park and rides for institutions like the hospitals and downtown, congestion is only going to get worse with all the new construction downtown and I don't see the parking capacity meeting it.

I feel your pain I had to do a install in that area for a customer and there was no parking at all not even a few house's down had to ask the neighbor beside my customer if I could park in there back ally driveway and they were kind enough to let me ,that parkade should help for sure

I think it was confirmed somewhere else in this thread that the restaurant would be owned by the same group that owns Rock Creek, but that they were naming this restaurant something different.

Drove past Capital pointe this morning, and they have started to demolish the building, some of the north side of the building was taken down already.

Regina Downtown and Casino Regina are offering a free shuttle from 4pm-10pm every Thursday in December. Basically different retailers have deals each week and the shuttle drops people off at these place to shop, have a drink, whatever. It looks like the furthest any of the listed places are from a stop is about a block (exceptions being Vrata and the Hotel Sask). Interesting idea...

I didn't read it all that carefully but I don't really buy the idea that charging for parking creates a financial barrier to health care. If you don't want to pay for parking you can always find another way to get there. I understand what he's saying about being distracted by having to plug meters but that's not really an issue here because you pay for parking as you leave (well, I guess the Medical Office Wing at RGH has pay and display).

Now just because I don't see the logic in his argument doesn't mean that I don't necessarily agree with him. It's not even so much the people who are there for appointments that bothers me. It's those who are visiting seriously ill patients that really bugs me. It's just one more thing to worry about (not even so much the cost but just the issue of having to have the cash). If you've ever seen a family fishing for change after the death of a loved one, you would probably agree. Maybe looking into different payment methods would help this.

It would be nice to have free parking, but without that revenue where do you take the cost of maintenance and repairs from?

Sorry Branny - normally enjoy and respect your posts but have to disagree. Where do you draw the line when you start talking about free hospital parking? The cost? well, its not just parking costs unless they fell out of a space ship - do we pay gas as well and how about a per diem if they miss an afternoon of work? What if they need prescription drugs to keep them alive afterwards - oh, they have to pay for those? but we should pick up parking?
I sypathise with the lack of parking but not the cost - let the market sort it out. If you build a gargantuan new parkade and offer free parking - I guarantee you will still have to get there at 6:00am to find an empty spot.

I drove by this today and looks like they've got the framing up for the third floor so progress is being made.

However a block north, there seems to be nothing happenning at Center Plaza, just the big Graham storage bin sitting on site. I thought ground breaking ceremonies were followed by construction.

And a half block further up there is a new Korean Hotpot restaurant going into that old coffee house location, which is good news..

Actually the ground breaking ceremonies were for the Gardens on Rose condo project.They said construction would start at the end of Dec., which I don't think will be happening. Again I would be more than happy to be proven wrong!
