Is that the SE corner of Bellamy and 99 Ave? The lot with the "pending sale" sign?

Dunno. Wasn't there. But given who is behind this... I am sure quite good.

Yeah that's a little dissapointing...although from the sounds of it, it looked like they were thinking of adding offices and getting rid of some of the condo's.

I know one owner of a unit in CP who is quite dissapointed about this. He understands plans change based on demand but one of the reasons he purchased was due to the original plans. Guess we'll see what happens.

Which makes me think someone was asleep at the wheel when the City approved this project. I'd be compelling them to develop the amenities in the first phase, otherwise the end-owners and the city could get screwed by the loss of anticipated amenities. This isn't rocket science. Well, maybe it is in certain jurisdictions.

I hope the townhouses provide a little private outdoor space. We're looking to move out of our Grandin condo into something central with just a little outdoor space for the little fella and the one on the way (even nice outdoor common space). The lack of options in the Oliver, Grandin, and central neighbourhoods in general is pretty disappointing.

Century Park became incredibly unrealistic in September 2008.

I've always questioned the validity behind massive condo "community projects". You're essentially building a small town. That requires a lot of specific demand from a rather specific demographic.

I much prefer one tower at a time.

I'm doubtful big projects like Aurora or VFTC will go ahead in their current form.

Massive condo community projects are great ideas in my opinion, just not yet for Edmonton...

However I think Aurora is an amazing project and would be a great addition and benefit to the city. The people behind it just got the timing all wrong. I would say they expected demand to follow the boom that occurred a few years ago; but failed to fully observe the condo market in Edmonton. If they held off marketing the project till after the new arena gained so much media attention, I think they'd have been more successful.
As for Century Park, very very disappointing. Although I never had much hope for it in the first place nor understood how these developers even thought such a massive project will actually fall through. Unless they always had a plan to change the project and the original design was for attraction....

I'd still rather see demand be met with individual towers, in varying locations and with varying designs instead of trying to apply the shopping super-center theory to housing development.

I loved the designs of the original Century Park, but I never did understand how it was possible for them to build out when only drawing from a population of 700,000, growing at 5% per year.

I can definitely see these types of models working in cities with large populations and major housing shortages.

Anyways, just my 2 cents. Perhaps the downsizing of CP will help the Downtown condo market out a little

From what I've heard, unit count for Century Park will stay the same, as will the corresponding density, it just won't be as vertical. This allows for reduced costs in the new climate since initial approval of the development, and allows easier phasing since you don't have to build a whole 24 storey point tower all at once. Another plan is repositioning of some of the uses, such as office space location. Finally, it is to better distribute the public amenities, and not have a bunch of 'wasted green space'.

I say wait until we see what the actual amended plans are before we all pull out our pitchforks.

And interesting to see Cascadia is now planned to be office as oppose to residential.

All I really want is for some of the conceptual drawings to turn into finished product. There are a lot of proposals out there but please someone start building. Yes I know some of these have started, but when you look at the front page it gets depressing. When I look out my office window and imagine the number of cranes that should be in my field of vision and only see 2, it’s disheartening.

Now I will sit back and wait for the dog pile.

^concur hotairboy, but until we start shifting some of that greenfield growth into projects such as this...

Was just at a UDI 'new horizons' lunch where Rohit Group was speaking about housing trends, density, 'demand', etc. and it was quite interesting to have reaffirmed that our generation is not shifting the model as much as we think we are.

Bang on. Also I know that ProCura was keen on creating a stronger connection to the LRT station and were planning on adding a mainstreet retail component.

If you required that, say goodbye to projects like this. They need to adapt as much as we do. Should they be off the hook for such radical changes in plans, absolutely not, should they provide something of similar 'value' in return, absolutely.

The cost of providing the amenities they had proposed initially would be impossible for a developer. It wasn't just a gym in a condo...
