Looks promising, well the pictures anyways. The 2005 date, not so much...

Would be nice to see this concept extended to all blocks from 104 - 107 av and also include 116 to 124 st. This is where most of the growth has been, in fact that aren't too many develop-able areas left in the western north edge.

This area deserves better than dirt path sidewalks and power lines you could hang laundry on.

The brewery development will have a huge impact here too. Has there been any news on this one?

They wanted to start with 105ave to drive projects north, rename the ave to its proper and former name, 'Columbia BLVD', and create an e/w bike route.

Ah yes, I remember reading up on this. To me it makes a lot of sense to rename important roads to something more personal and less generic. Sure, the numbered system is awesome for navigating the City of Edmonton in general, but I think important ones shouldn't need that and should be easily known so people already know where it is.

124 St should go back to Edward St
97 St should go back to Namayo St or whatever proposal they had a year or two ago
104 St should not go back to 4 St, but rather something like Market St

Other roads deserving of a name IMO: 107 Ave, 109 St, 87 or 89 Ave around the UofA, 23 Ave, 137 Ave, 170 St, and 75 St

Also, roads which are technically named but still officially go by a number should just be switched over to the name a la Jasper Ave. This includes Alberta Ave, Whyte Ave, and Rue Hull/Hull Street.

So it's not quite the end of the year yet, but does anybody have any predictions for new construction starts in 2012? Here are my guesses/hopes

- Mayfair II
- John Day/CWB Jasper Ave Development
- Next phase of Century Park
- Manulife II or "The Arc"
- New Arena
- 116 St/Jasper + Former Kellys redevelopment
- Molson Brewery Lands
- New RAM
- something in the Quarters/Boyle, such as the Holiday Inn, phase two of Boyle Renaissance, streetscape enhancements, or the Valleyview condos
- Cascadia or Azur
- RK East

Hmm...on second thought, not all of these will likely start in the new year, but I think they all have the potential and I'm hopeful at least half of them do.

Some related news from C2E..."For Lease" sign on the Crosstown land, so that development looks like it's been mothballed.

In other news, good meeting about the Cromdale with the mayor, Tony, the Shoppers development dudes from Toronto and IBI group. My main 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 is that the entrance will be on the east side of 118th, would have preferred to see it on the corner of 118 & 82. It was pretty obvious that Mandel and Caterina are willing to do what it takes to make this deal go through.

Not surprising as there are four good sized CRUs vacant in oliver square right now. Would rather see crosstown developed with a residential component anyways.

Twin Brooks residents celebrated Tuesday after city council voted to remove long-term plans to build a new road bridge across Blackmud Ravine.

"The big issue for us is the whole issue of sustainability in our city," community league president Ida Richards said. "Here's 1,000 acres of natural areas, the Blackmud-Whitemud area, and it would be gone forever. I don't care what engineers say about the mitigating efforts."...
