I know a lot of F1 teams have been pushing for 2-3 US based races for the last few years (the US is most of the auto makers most profitable region). and long-term if both races make it, I think it would be a great thing for the sport as interest would surely increase nationally.

That said, this is a sport with a very small following in the US, and there is a battle for tourism dollars.

Lets also not pretend there haven't been some strange financial and political rangling going on in Austin over the last few months or a work stoppage. The NJ race being a street race will be much more cost effective to set up.
Well, I can't attest to any shenanigans on the local level, I just don't think the Austin Grand Prix is going to unravel because they've just announced one in NYC.

The Corazon Apartments look nice, they should start construction in March:

Quote:
The other projects are scheduled to start next year, including a targeted March launch for Corazon, slated for an area where an eclectic mix of restaurants and other businesses is emerging. Corazon would be on land now occupied by food vendors, some of which Cypress hopes to incorporate into its development, which could open in June 2013.

Also, I don't think anyone has ever posted information about another project mentioned in that article, M Station:

http://www.foundcom.org/get-housing/austin-communities/m-station/

Although for low-income families, the project is good for density and is interesting given its location on the metrorail near the MLK stop.

Hyatt Place hotel construction is under way!

They appeared to be drilling holes for the piles here, as they already have the rebar columns on site. Not messing around!

BTW, they also have closed off 3rd St. on that block between the Hyatt Place and the lot next to it. Since they're both under construction at the same time, probably easier that way.

Yea I noticed that too. I wonder if it will be closed for the entire construction or just till they get things going and the cranes are up.

Austin Business Journal by Sandra Zaragoza, Staff Writer

By the end of 2015, the students at St. Edward’s University will walk onto a revitalized campus with a new library, science building and chapel.

When the university set out to update its campus, it was intent on hiring up-and-coming architects as it recognized the role design can play in attracting top students.

The last word on that location (Block 51) was that it was going to be a 28-story condo and a 16-story office tower.

Yeah, I've been seeing activity as well. Not sure what that's about. It would be nice to see something develop...not sure if it's just stuff from the fed courthouse...

ATI envisions major wet lab

Quote:
Austin Business Journal by Sandra Zaragoza, Staff Writer
Date: Friday, November 4, 2011, 5:00am CDT

Austin Technology Incubator is proposing a $60 million to $80 million wet-laboratory incubator that it said could rapidly accelerate the biotechnology industry in Central Texas.

The proposal for such an incubator is the result of a yearlong study, funded partly by the U.S. Economic Development Administration, that identified a lack of wet-lab space in Austin. The ATI report estimates Austin needs to add 60,000 square feet of wet-lab space.

Yeah, I'd prefer a parking lot over this crap. The parking garage in this building is monstrous.

Functional trumps beautiful. Looks cheap. At least the garage portion doesn't look too bad compared to others dt. The upper floors remind me of some of the hotels in the area.
