The US had a hell of a time supporting a single race before.
I know a lot of F1 teams have been pushing for 2-3 US based races for the last few years (the US is most of the auto makers most profitable region). and long-term if both races make it, I think it would be a great thing for the sport as interest would surely increase nationally.
That said, this is a sport with a very small following in the US, and there is a battle for tourism dollars.
Lets also not pretend there haven't been some strange financial and political rangling going on in Austin over the last few months or a work stoppage. The NJ race being a street race will be much more cost effective to set up.
Well, I can't attest to any shenanigans on the local level, I just don't think the Austin Grand Prix is going to unravel because they've just announced one in NYC.
The Corazon Apartments look nice, they should start construction in March:

BTW, they also have closed off 3rd St. on that block between the Hyatt Place and the lot next to it. Since they're both under construction at the same time, probably easier that way.

By the end of 2015, the students at St. Edward’s University will walk onto a revitalized campus with a new library, science building and chapel.
When the university set out to update its campus, it was intent on hiring up-and-coming architects as it recognized the role design can play in attracting top students.
The Circuit of the Americas has received permits from Travis County to begin above-ground construction on five significant buildings, including the main grandstand for the track southeast of Austin.
Something is happening on the lot at 5th and Nueces. Anybody have info about whats going on?
Yeah, I've been seeing activity as well. Not sure what that's about. It would be nice to see something develop...not sure if it's just stuff from the fed courthouse...

Austin Technology Incubator is proposing a $60 million to $80 million wet-laboratory incubator that it said could rapidly accelerate the biotechnology industry in Central Texas.
The proposal for such an incubator is the result of a yearlong study, funded partly by the U.S. Economic Development Administration, that identified a lack of wet-lab space in Austin. The ATI report estimates Austin needs to add 60,000 square feet of wet-lab space.
Rogers-O’Brien has been selected to build a new 17-story apartment tower in downtown Austin to be located at Third and Brazos streets. This $40 million high-rise apartment tower will encompass over 282,000 SF and will include 268 multi-family units, 10,000 SF of ground-floor commercial space, 6,000 SF restaurant, 5 floors of above-ground parking and 11-floors for residential occupancy. The structure will be a cast-in-place concrete structure with a combination of brick, stone and glass facade, and will feature a number of upscale amenities such as an expansive pool and deck, fitness center, business center, coffee bar and lounge.
Functional trumps beautiful. Looks cheap. At least the garage portion doesn't look too bad compared to others dt. The upper floors remind me of some of the hotels in the area.
