Biology lesson aside I would welcome a LOT flight back to Edmonton anytime - preferably with the gear down.

There is a large number of Polish people I know that travel back home on a regular basis and would use the route.

LOT did pretty well in there many years of seasonal service to YEG. I remember seeing the airlines IL-62's at YEG before the 767s were brought online...

Edmonton has the second largest Polish community in Canada and last I heard the third largest in NA, surpassing Buffalo.

Yeah, LOT did well here. LOT also has good connections to the Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.

Can't happen anymore, Open Skies. Will be interesting to see if the new expansion drums up new business. I think the new Berlin airport, and the third runway at Frankfurt has potential to reorder traffic to Germany too.

If by 2015 there isn't a flight to Germany, it will just show what has been said on here before is true, that airlines only see demand for one widebody to Europe a day from Edmonton.

I wouldn't doubt 2nd largest in Canada outside of Toronto, but not 3rd largest in NA when you have Chicago and NY with two huge Polish populations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._cities_with_large_Polish_American_populations

Top 5 in NA perhaps? About 67,500 Edmontonians identified as being of Polish decent in the '06 census. Which would put it just above Philly, but below Chicago and NY. So if only TO is larger in Canada, (which I don't know) then that would be 4th largest in NA. Or 5th if you combined Cheektowaga and Buffalo together I suppose. Hmmmm....

Lone Star State (IAH) a 737-700 series leaving YEG before I believe at 11:54 arriving in IAH around 5:09am if I am remembering correctly. Morning flights remain on the 737-800 Series. This flight will catch more of the shift works from up north.
