YUL Marriott looks just fine. I think there should be an exception to "corporate identity" if it's an airport hotel - besides, the company is one thing, the building is another - what if another operator takes it over. The identity should relate to the principal building being the terminal building. I hope this was not a situation where, EA accepted "their" design because they were so hungry for a connected hotel.
(BTW - who is the development authority at the airport? The MGA part 17 is excempt on Federal Jurisdiction lands)

^ Well this is a Courtyard Marriott no?, so different standards. Usually mainline brands are much more individualized.

Could be big news long term for YEG. Proving a route 'within' the carrier with economy and premium economy could lead to eventual mainline route pickup methinks. Depending how soon this gets off the ground, I would guess a FRA flight is right around the corner.

Um, didn't AC try the discount carrier just a few years ago? What's different this time around?

That was a discount short haul (Zip which folded outright) and a general discount airline (Tango, which was folded back into the main line as the low fare class), this is a discount sun and long haul brand.

So this time it is attactched to a vacation marketing arm, not trying to compete for schedueled domestic traffic.

I'm guessing this is something for AC to do with some of their 767's that would be surplus when the 787's start arriving. I thought that they wouldn't have much spare lift around even then, has this changed?

I recall when I could fly to Van (2000-2003ish) for $150 all in because of... what's that word again, oh right, COMPETITION.

Leasing planes made surplus by the mergers down south perhaps? If the world wide leasing market is weak, may as well jump in to secure some more metal.

For the summer at least they may have some A319s from their 'Jetz' fleet they can recabin.

I'm guessing the egg maintenence fee does not cover the same thing as an egg management fee... don't forget that one

Sounds like AC wants to create something similar to JetStar, a low-cost subsidiary of Qantas created in 2003.

JetStar has both narrowbody (A320, A321) and widedbody (A330) aircraft and flies to international destinations as well as Australian domestic routes, particularly those which Qantas may find unprofitable. It sounds like AC may be going the same route in having a mix of A319s and 767s and flying int'l as well as domestic routes within Canada. They're saying this is to compete with LCCs and charter carriers like WestJet and Air Transat, but I think it's also possibly due of rising oil prices and the delay in 787 deliveries.

JetStar is a good example. Also the airline industry in Canada is much more stable than it was when Zip and Tango were introduced. Both those airlines were created when Air Canada was on the brink of Bankruptcy, and fighting off a very aggressive Westjet, a to low cost Jetgo, and fledging Canjet. I see Air Canada being more proactive this go around.
