I was able to route my 60 year old mother in law through LHR who was coming from Europe to YEG. Doesnt speaka-da english. But it went fairly smoothly. One thing that you can arrange is have the airline arrange a representative to meet your parents at the gate and escort them to the other terminal. I cant remember, but you might need to say that they need special assistance because of mobility - but maybe not.

Concur. Our Grandparents managed LHR more than a few times and it worked out well so long as they did not have to rush. Plenty of time and it was A-OK.

I have to agree with Bigtime. In all our trips over, other than YEG- LHR using YYC as an alternate is preferred to Toronto or Montreal. That extra 4.5 hours is a bitch. As long as you give your self time in London or Frankfurt you should be able to transit without issues.

This last trip to Berlin we used LHR and loved the fact we had one transfer and were in the air less than the last trip to Lyon.

Its that walk from terminal 3 to 1 in LHR that's a bitch.

looking at frankfurt flights, cheapest i found was for a grand, but you have to connect in seattle...So backtracking....but worth it to save 700 dollars. What is "condor" like as an airline?

Interesting, Edmonton's isn't that bad...then again alot of these have really good transit system hooking them up.

If I'm flying to Manchester:
YEG-(AC)>LHR-(BMI)>MAN

AC allows 22kg, BMI allows 20kg. Will I have to pay BMI's excess baggage fee for my bag that's 2kg over?

I assume yes.

If it's checked through, likely not. They only weight at check-in to charge you said over fee.

To Manchester, you will use AC's international luggage allowance rules so 22kg. Coming back to Edmonton, you will be under BMI's international luggage allowance rules so 20kg. Basically your flight rules are guided by the first carrier you fly with during each leg meaning the departing leg and arrival leg in your case.

Not really purposeful to compare with cities that are at least twice the size if not more. Still bloody annoying to get out there - has there been any news on all day bus service besides the existing private shuttle?

Now I happened to be reading in a local paper today that a large developer got an earful from someone who lives downtown and then invited HIM to provide some feedback and get sneak peaks at the revised plans for the project. (it's downtown). If it worked for that citizen it might work for you? Call EIA and let us know if you can - unless it was privileged info. You know what I mean...right?? From what I heard, the original design was pushed heavy from the top (Marriot) who wanted it to fit their international branding regardless of context. The local operator had other ideas for something a little more contextually appropriate, but Marriot was quite insistent.

^I recognize the need to maintain brand identity, but if this turns out to be a suburban Ellerslie Road hotel tagged onto our new beautiful airport, we should ALL be embarrassed and I hope the guys at YEG understand this.
