Came into Edmonton last night. That new area to the SW of 12-30 rwys is really looking good. I didn't know those lots would all be lite up and serviced with this expansion. Looks like one of the new FBO's have broken ground near the end of rwy 30, very exciting times at YEG.

I think we have been so focused on the numbers that we are forgetting that at present the most exciting things are the developments happening at the airport. The new terminal, the new service lots. Once the new terminal is opened, new flights and passenger counts will increase. The FBO's will really make it attractive to corporate travellers, something the city centre can not compete with.

Very exciting times indeed.

As part of that goal, we want to create a truly outstanding airport experience that reflects our community. Edmonton’s art community is alive and thriving, and includes many talented artists and we want to showcase some of that exciting talent here at EIA. EIA has identified an area within our arrivals corridor that will be called the ‘Arts District Corridor" and will be dedicated to our local arts community. The Arts District Corridor will be a great complement to the arts community in general, and the City of Edmonton in particular. The entire Arts District Corridor area has been divided into sections, with each section representing art, theatre, music, dance and opera. Although our existing partners have all contributed copy and photography to various sections of the Arts District Corridor already, the centre of the Arts District Corridor has been identified as the perfect ‘signature’ location to feature a large permanent mural painted by a talented local artist. The mural will be a perfect complement to the partner displays that lead up to, and away, from the signature location.The subject of the mural will, at least in some ways, need to be primarily about the community of Edmonton, and should portray a light-hearted and happy tone. The mural should be constructed so that passengers will see more detail as they walk closer to it, but should not cause passengers to stop completely, as the Arts District Corridor is an important passenger flow area at EIA.

Just down in Palm Springs enjoying the weather and noticed in the copy of USA Today a full page ad by Air Canada mentioning the advantages for people from Los Angeles to route through Toronto YYZ to Europe.
All those flights to Copenhagen, Zurich etc were offered to LA travellers at sale rates.

Kind of interesting they would promote YYZ to LA.

Just got back from Cabo San Lucas, both nonstop flights (there and back) were full on Westjets 738 (166 passengers), we arrived last night at the same time as the Houston flight, 8-10 custom officials, took 5 minutes to get through (the Houston flight looked very full).

Ran across this YEG flight planning tool, shows nonstop routes, schedules, best connecting airports (YYC is never an option on this site

), etc.

Flight to Palms Springs was full as well coming down. Westjet 737 -700.

looks like Westjet is th only Canadian airline - Calgay , Edmonton and Van have dailies here.

Plenty of Canadians here as you can imagine.

Flights to and from LHR were packed as well. The flight attendant mentioned that all the flights she has worked the last few months have been full as well.

YYZ to LAX is one of AC's most profitable routes. (If not THE most.) It's also one of the most competitive in the system with a few American carriers plus Westjet on it.

Inside travellers' tip: Due to that competition AC's business class between T.O. and L.A. is the very best they have. You are GOLD in the front of the plane on that route.

Not sure where you are getting your info from.

Right now the only carriers on LAX-YYZ are AC (5 daily flights), AA (1 daily flight only) and VX (1 daily flight, but soon to be canned). Westjet tried and failed on that route and have not flown it for ages.

So it's a pretty dominant AC route. Yes, it gets competition from US carriers via a range of one-stop connections through each of their respective hubs, but other than AA's 1 daily non-stop, AC has the non-stop market in the bag.

Anyone know why there was an Air Canada nonstop flight from LAX at YEG today? An A320 landed at 16:13, flight AC7023.
