I believe this is some of the undeveloped land owned by the City near the landfill.

My understanding is that this is not a single building; it is a collection of buildings that would house the Public Works operational staff and equipment. The current Public Works yard at 4th and Albert is widely viewed as too small and outdated. This facility would largely or completely replace the 4th Ave yard.

If I'm reading the above information right, this is still early in the planning phase with no timeline set.

That make sense. It is probably a ways off as this does not appear to be in the City's 5 year capital program. $70mm is a big capital number for the City. They have hired an architect though.

If Regina or Saskatoon or Winnipeg for that matter couldn't land the Viterra head office then the future doesn't look bright for office towers in the respective cities. Who is going to want to set up shop when Calgary has large chunks of available office space at similar lease rates ready to go because they build on speculation? And when Calgary is the place to be for senior executives well that's a double whammy for monopolization of the office market. Good on Mosaic for building their tower in Regina, it might give a little momentum for other large tenants to choose Regina.

Mosaic did it becasue they receive a huge Potash Profits Tax credit for every head office job. Don't be surpised if Vale and of course BHP, do the same. It would be nice to see Agrium relocate at least their potash HQ from Calgary.

Hopefully in a few years Calgary will be booming again, vacancies will fall and rents will be back up.

CEO Mayo Schmidt is in Calgary, is he not? Anyway, Regina is the registered head office, much like Saskatoon is the registered head office for PotashCorp (and Regina was the registered head office for Ipsco back when most of their executives were in Lisle, Illinois.)

Of the 16 executives listed on Viterra's website 7 are listed as based in Calgary, including the CEO, CFO, COO and General Counsel :

Only 3 are listed as Regina based. Two are based in Manitoba and one in Australia. Three do not indicate where they are based. Clearly this company is run out of Calgary. They may still have many employees in Regina, but I would bet most of the growth is in the Calgary office - Bow Valley Square.

The have begun installing the "light saber" street lights in City Square. They don't look like much during the day, but they should create an interesting effect at night.

Those lights are definitely interesting. I hope they are simply white rather than tacky colours.

I was driving by the new John Deere dealership being built, just east of Regina, this morning. There's a lot of heavy machinery being used to develop the land and put the building up. They were all Case machines. Isn't that ironic?
