No worries. Your post is great except it contains the entire article

I want everyone to know the rules, that's all. In the last month or so I have been editing posts to adhere to forum rules when quoting news articles. You can post a few paragraphs or whatever, and insert [...] in place of content you did not include.

REGINA — The Regina Fire and Protective Services Department began operations out of the new, state-of-the-art No. 4 Fire Hall at 3855 Dewdney Ave. on Monday.

"We're really excited about how we worked with (the city's) facilities and traffic departments," said Assistant Chief Roland Gemmell. "One of the best things that we have done by the actual location of this station is it has improved our response both east and west of here.

The lot is large and planned out so when fire trucks are coming in and out of the station, they can make turns without having to interrupt street traffic.

Extra bay spaces means the hall can be flexible in having additional vehicles or vehicles with different types of capabilities at the ready if there is a large event planned in the area, for example.

An official public opening of the new fire hall is planned for the spring.

I just removed the middle section, but you can be selective with the content; especially if you want to critique or expand on specific points.

It is a rule I myself have ignored in the past but that is coming to an end. I hope this helps clear things up.

Why are we not allowed to post the entire article though? If the publisher is credited, and the writer and then link is included...why in a forum are we not allowed to show the entire piece of news? I have always posted the entire leader-post articles. Why is it an issue now? I am not challenging in a negative way, I just don't see what negative impact it is.

Because the article is someone's copyrighted, valuable property. If you could just copy it what would be the value of a copyright? By posting only part of the article and the link, at least some readers will go to the source where there may be paid advertising, for example.

BHP Billiton

If BHP Billiton was permitted to proceed with their purchase as they have laid it out, where would they likely locate their Saskatchewan "head office" or high-salaried positions?

Saskatoon, Regina, somewhere else even? Maybe this is obvious - just want to get an idea what people think.

The head office should remain in Saskatoon always that city needs this presence , reguarding the posting of this story i have seen many a times were this potash story was on the Saskatoon thread i wonder if anything has been said there reguarding non construction news stories , to me it it does not matter , there are to many seperate threads as it is , how many recent posts are there on the GTH , the stadium , capital pointe ect, ect , not many, but i guess we must follow the rules the best we can.

I would think that the head office would be located in Saskatoon along with any new positions. BHP Billiton already occupies an entire brand new office building in dowtown Saskatoon and the PCS "headquarters" (although a significant percentage are in Chicago - apparently 200 positions in Chicago including all support staff) have an office tower in Saskatoon.

It would have been great to see an new office tower go up, much like Mosaic is doing, but BHP Billiton occupies a Lead 4 story new building, so don't see them building anything new.

Now for some actual construction news

City of Regina's planning commission approves new multi-unit condo building By Tim Switzer, Leader-Post October 27, 2010 8:31 PM

http://www.leaderpost.com/news/City+Regi...i+unit+condo+building/3737162/story.html

REGINA — More housing could soon be coming to the downtown area after a new multi-unit building got a thumbs up from the City of Regina's planning commission on Wednesday.

The proposal would see a 39-unit condominium building built on the 2200 block of Scarth Street, across from Central Park.

The discretionary-use application will now go to city council for consideration at its Nov. 8 meeting.

While most in the neighbourhood supported the plan, a few expressed concerns about it not including affordable rental housing during the consultation phase.

The question of whether the plan was for rentals or condominiums was also the first out of commission member Coun. Mike O'Donnell's mouth on Wednesday.

"We certainly are hopeful and would encourage and would love to see some more rentals come forward," said O'Donnell. "Although there's a few hundred supposedly under construction or going to be, they're just not there yet."

But at the same time, he said, the downtown area needs more housing, period.

"Simply put, we want housing in the downtown," said O'Donnell. "I like the idea that it's more dense so there's more people. Some of those other amenities — grocery stores and so on — can develop because those people are there."

A few other options are in the works for those wishing to live downtown, including the renovated Leader Building and the soon-to-be revamped Plains Hotel which is to become a highrise apartment structure.

John Aston, development manager for Century West, which is overseeing the Scarth Street building's development, said the original plan of the owner (which is not Century West) was to include some affordable housing units in the structure. Aston was not sure whether or not that was still in the plan.

"I think it fits in well with the intent of the zoning," said Aston. "It seems to be a bit of an area in transition. There's some quite high-rising buildings next to it and some single-family homes. It's a real mixture and I think ours is an in between."

The four-storey building that is to take up three residential lots would offer 39 units as well as 47 parking stalls (including 42 underground) and a common area.

While there is no official timeline on when construction could start if approved by council, Aston said he expected it would be in the [...]

Back to head office jobs and the potential they create for new office towers, you will recall the discussion several years ago after Sask Wheat Pool took over Agricore United. Everyone was interested to see where the head office of Viterra would end up: Regina or Winnipeg. Well the result seems pretty clear. The winner is............. Calgary.

From what I have heard, vitually every senior executive now works out of Calgary.

Viterra was sniffing around Regina for a new head office for a while, but they eventually gave up after office space in Calgary became competive with Regina. Also, it would take 3 years to get anything built in Regina and Calgary has all kinds of vacant space.

Maybe that is why the fourth hill tower is in the planning stages , with some luck this other tower will see the crane into the heavens, plus those tower rumors they must be true.

A expert on local history will facilitate a look at downtown Regina's future.
As part of the University of Regina's Coffee House Controversies series, William Brennan of the history department will give a talk called "The Regina Downtown Neighbourhood Plan: What it is and Will it work?" at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Chapters bookstore.
Brennan has written extensively about the history of Regina. In his role with advocacy organization Heritage Regina, he made presentations to Office for Urbanism, the consultant that developed the "Walk to Work" downtown plan that Regina's city council approved last year.
[...]

It's a question "whether drivers will put up with designated bike lanes and bus lanes" in the tight space, Brennan continued, noting the "devil is in the details."
"Reginans are a funny lot," he said, adding many people say they never shop downtown because they can't find a place to park. "What they really mean sometimes is they can't find a place to park in front of the store they want to patronize."
The same people will drive to a big box store mall and, from the end of the lot, walk the equivalent of three blocks.
"There's a lot of small town left in Regina," Brennan continued, noting the fact downtown parking isn't free during the week -- unlike at suburban shopping centres -- is a factor, too.
"If any of us imagine that one day Regina's downtown will again be the city's premiere retailing hub, they're dreaming," he said.
"The downtown needs to reinvent itself. In some sense, that's what the (plan) encourages the City of Regina and the people of Regina to do."

PVR if you have it.

October 21, 2010
"The Regina Downtown Neighbourhood Plan: What is it and Will it Work?" by Dr. William Brennan (Department of History)

"Walk to Work: The Regina Downtown Neighbourhood Plan, adopted by City Council in 2009, has charted a new direction for the heart of our city. But will it succeed, given the fact that Reginans' rush to the suburbs over the past 60 years has squeezed most of the life out of our once-thriving downtown core? Dr. Bill Brennan will critically examine the evolution of Regina's downtown, outline the key features of this new plan, and offer some comparisons with what other mid-sized cities are doing to revitalize their downtowns.

This talk airs on Access7 on November 3, 2010 at 3:00pm.

Hats-off to Matthew for Regina's updated drawings!!!!!!!

Other buildings that would qualify would be Cooper Place (the ex-Sasktel head office) and The Palliser.

Maybe even Sherwood Place, Sask. Energy, RBC building, and Viterra would qualify as well.

And yes, Saskatoon could also have more buildings on the diagrams page.
