Nope, but funding from Leduc county and City of Leduc is awesome. Glad this finally got some legs!

So let me get this straight... the tail (Leduc) is wagging the dog (Edmonton)?

From link above ...

ETS will be using standard accessible low floor buses equipped with wireless Internet capability.

The thing is that it's only going to be peak-hour only. Hopefully in the near future it'll be at a full schedule.

I tried the full south extension out, the ride from Century Park to University is pretty fast. Not going to hold my breath for an airport and Leduc extension but man would that be awesome.

Refreshing to see (from the journal)

Don Koziak kicked off his mayoral campaign by calling for construction of more freeway interchanges and a halt to LRT expansion. Where would you spend your transportation money?

Yup, I think the perception in Edmonton has started to change enough that trying to campaign on de-funding LRT plans isn't a winning platform in any regard. You lose more votes then you gain with this angle, but considering the rest of his platform, I don't think he was attracting those votes initially.

LRT has helped reduce car traffic in Parkallen by up to one-third. Photo by Dave Robb
When the Alberta-based Pembina Institute looked at Canada’s six largest cities to see what they’re doing to encourage lower-carbon choices for personal transportation, they found some laudable progress. But a report by the Institute says the cities must do more to promote green urban design and encourage fewer polluting transportation alternatives such as walking, cycling, taking public transit and travelling shorter distances.

Sometimes this city pisses me off.

I used to drive downtown to work every day, but now go out of my way to take the LRT from Century Park in an effort to save money and reduce emissions (a trip which actually takes me even longer to get to work from where I live btw).

I guess with schools starting this week the parking lot at Century Park was absolutely full this morning, so I parked next to some car where I was abolutely in no way obstructing anybody's way of getting in/out of the parking lot.

I come back from work to find my car, as well as like 20-30 around me slapped with a ticket. Is this the way the city wants to encourage people to take transit?

There were multiple ETS and police cars around the lot this morning directing people. They could have easily told people where they can and cannot park, and directed them towards another stall or lot near Southgate on where to park. Instead they wait for all of us to leave and throw us a ticket.

Thank you parking power-trippers, I might just save you guys the trouble and start driving again. Might even end up costing me less.

I fail to see the issue here, if you were illegally parked then you should get a ticket. Do you think people should get to park illegally (for free) because they take the LRT?

LRT riders warned to expect packed trains this fall
Transit system falls victim to own success

Keith Gerein
Edmonton Journal

Transit officer Shane Villeneuve patrols the Century Park LRT station on Tuesday. Edmonton Transit plans to add staff at LRT platforms to cope with a looming influx of back-to-school commuters.

Packed park-and-rides. Overpopulated platforms. Train cars stuffed like pinatas.

Elbow room? Not on this city's transit system.

Over the last several months, Edmonton's LRT network has become a victim of its own success, nearly bursting at the seams with commuters who have flocked to the rail line in unexpectedly high numbers.

Now, with back-to-school season ramping up, the congestion is about to get worse -- potentially, a lot worse...

No kidding. That little piece of paper the driver hands you is a transfer, not a get outta jail free card.

The parking police have been out in full force recently downtown....it has to be at a point where it is going to discourage people from coming.

I saw THREE cars get written up on my four block walk from the office to the condo on saturday afternoon on 99ave. Three cars getting tickets written by two parking maids, plus a handful with tickets already on them. Thats outrageous. Its almost certainly a case of the city hiring more meter maids this summer and with one of them walking by your car every five minutes.

^^^ I think that's a bit of a small town mentality, I see people trying to park for free at our complex all the time... excuse me, this is a city of a million people and part of it are very busy. You want to park ? Pay up. IMO there is not enough parking enforcement in Edmonton.

If you can tie your shoes you can learn where and when to park and how to operate a meter.

Better yet, move downtown and dont worry about parking

Alternative, take transit

As a last resort visit Toronto or Vancouver and dont worry about getting a ticket but have fun with the Tow company and getting your car out of the lot.

Most of the problems we have are with contractors, who seem to think that they can park wherever they want. -Sorry guy, not my fault that you didn't factor in the $12/ day into the cost of the job.

The peak hour tow zones aslo cause problems, but it's mostly out of towners who have issues with that. Had a lady from Calgary come unglued in our office becuase the city towed her van... -Sorry lady, not my fault you didn't read the signs
