Good news.

I want to know when they're going to start working on the unsightly ROW in the NE. I'd like to see the leg north of downtown get the same asthetic treatment as the south side

EDMONTON — Putting a parking lot at the Century Park LRT station is producing a multimillion-dollar benefit for Edmonton’s transportation system.

The station was scheduled to be served by a regional lot in Heritage Valley linked to the station by a shuttle bus.

But that plan was put on hold after the city arranged last fall to build a temporary 1,230-stall gravel lot beside the station on leased land not yet required for the Century Park condo development...

Have you seen that parking lot at Century Park? Ohhh man. You need to be 4x4ing to go through there and not lose some teeth along the way.
They should look at putting some money into that parking lot to make it a little safer for everyone.

Just run a grader over it.

No sense spending $$ on a temporary leased lot

Yeah, they better do something about it. Not the greatest.
Didn't realize it was a temp lot anyways.
They should have built that park and ride there when they had the chance.
Oh well.

Oh I'm sure there will be a park & ride at the end of that leg but it will be at Heritage Valley when they push the LRT down there. The temporary CP lot is only for the time that the line ends there.

Will this be done by the end of August? Those 3 car trains are barely cutting it right now.

I am going to be depending on the LRT this fall, and I am getting a little scared with how crammed it is right now WITHOUT all the the U of A and MacEwan students on top of it.

I'll change habits, or whatever. No problem. But I can't afford to be left behind on the platform to be late for my job the first week of September before figuring it all out...

^ From http://edmonton.ca/transportation/ets/transit-news.aspx

"The major projects include South LRT platform extensions at McKernan/Belgravia and Health Sciences stations to accommodate 5-car trains. Construction is underway from June to October.

The Northeast LRT Line Signal System upgrade will provide better on-time service and improved safety at level crossings. Work is underway with completion scheduled for April 2011. Northeast Ductline installation will assist the signal system upgrade, by installing a new ductline along the line between Churchill and Clareview stations with completion scheduled for August 2010.

The Northeast LRT Line Electrical System upgrade will allow operation of 4-car and 5-car trains using the new vehicles. Work along the right-of-way is scheduled from June to early 2011. Substation upgrades are scheduled from July to December 2010."

Lots of students moving into our area too for the cheaper housing and easy access to the U. House enxt door was just bought by a U student who plans to rent two extra rooms to other students, and at least two other houses on the block are full of students as well. It'll be interesting to see what happens come september.

Right now they just have stacks of pipe along the ROW although I assume trees would come later.

You are right. The 7:20AM train departing Century Park usually fills up the seats, by Southgate people are standing, by South Campus it becomes a sardine can. We need to be running 5-cars right now during peak hours. September will be very, very interesting.

Once again, the ridership response to the south LRT shows how much demand there is for the LRT.

^ try getting on at Stadium after the train has hit Clareview, Belvedere and Collesium.. same thing.

It's even worse at the end fo the day though. Three times in the past two weeks a train has rolled up and everyone on the platform gorans as they see all the people pressed up against the windows

You people must get to work earlier than I do. I get on at Stadium at about 8:15 and there's only ever a small handful of people standing and there's a few empty seats here and there. On the way home after 5pm I have my choice of seats many days.

Most workplaces I've been to, outside of government and charities, start at 8 in the morning and get off at 4:30 in the afternoon. I think this is done so that people's commutes at the end of the day will always have sunlight - especially in the winter.

So, there is now going to be a bus to the airport, Leduc and Nisku starting August 30th that starts and ends at Century Park. Not sure if it's been posted...

Score! No more SkyShuttle. Too bad it won't be in service when I stay over at my brother-in-law's in Leduc.
