So here is a CRHC project that is proposed for the wierd triangle lot north of the LRT tracks by 112th ave. It's only acessible by sidestreet so there isn't really any street level but they are going to be turning the adjascent muddy alley that everyone uses to get the the LRT into a pedestrian friendly route. not realy sure what to think about it this, but CRHC is open to suggestions and is apparently willing to let this go to EDC.

Designed by BKA, it's 90% market rate housing, mostly 3 bedroom units, leaning towards being a family building

The league is going to be discusing it shortly, It will add some more density around the LRT station anyways

That's a nice picnic basket. Not sure where she'd be going with it.

Anyway, is this to replace those blue/grey townhomes that are there right now? I can't picture how it's going to fit into what's existing. It doesn't look big enough to fill the trangle lot.

So access is off the alley then? And I assume it will have to be all U/G parking considering space constraints....(sauf visitor parking though). Design is lacking, and market rate, 3 bedroom units might be hard to move with this design/location/assumed market rate price, but likely bought by people looking to rent out (think Uni students).

^ Partially.... from the look of the site plan they are taking out some of the parking for the townhouses and widenting the +/- 40 foot stretch between 113th ave and the complex, then the rest of the alley will remian, but be repaved, landscaped and lit up.

The 112 ave condos would only be a block or 2 from EEHC as well. By the time these are built EEHC may have full funding.

That's been my bitch for a while.

Regarding Street art. Having time to walk around Iqaluit (No matter how much you scream the charter flight will not fly if the ceiling is 500ft) today there is a remarkable amount of Carved stone around the town at street corner etc. Will post some shots later over on the Canada page.

RE: Henday, I'm sure there's plenty of stuff happening that's not visible in your shots, but it appears all that's happened since I left 10 months ago is the installation of the bridge decks. I thought they were all pre-cast and installed somewhat quickly.

Re Henday there is allot of paving from RGD to 137Ave also the 170 flyover is getting curbs to be open end of sept. St Albert is open end of Oct.

It's nothing more than a make work project. You can only employ so many people working for the territory, Feds, airport, town, fisheries, before you have to start dabbling in public art to keep the populous employed.

True but there is also a large number of housing project on going. todays count was 7 tenplexes in the old village area. There is more up on the Road to nowhere. Plus add in all the project up island and the requirement to have locals on them add up. And talking to a carver this morning some make enough selling on the international market they don't go on assistance. But yah, there is a lot of unemployment. Polutuk nickle mine and the Baffinlands Iran mine are moving ahead but slowly.
