I didn't know CRJ's or Q400's are that bad of a plane. Try flying Augsburg Airways based in Munich on one of their turboprops and you'll see what service and great fares really are.

What's pathetic is flying to Vancouver to get to Kelowna, your hatred for Westjet is getting tiresome. Whilst Westjet doesn't go to those International places it does go to Mexico, Hawaii, Jamaica, etc and has numerous flights to the US, how many flights does AC have directly to the US again, thats right, zero.

And with regards to international flights AC is hardly providing us with a huge amount of options other than London.

Jeez, you're reading too much into my comment!

What I was basically getting at is that it'd take about 30 minutes longer (somewhere around there anyways) to fly from Edmonton to Kelowna if a turborop like the Dash 8 was used instead of a jet aircraft.

CRJ-200s, I'm not 100% a fan of - they can be a little cramped in some seats and the windows are too low. But I don't mind it way too much - as long as the flight's not over an hour and a half. At least they're faster than turboprops and climb well.

I have no problem transferring on longer flights to more remote destinations (but not at YYC or YVR) but having to transfer for a 50 minute fligth is stupid. As much as I don't really like Westjet, they've got my business as long as AC continues to underserve our market

When Air Canada Jazz takes delivery of their new Q400s, they should be adding a bunch more marginal routes. I wouldn't be surprised if Kelowna from Edmonton was one of them.

I hope the new ones are much better than the current Dash 8's, I just flew on one and it was horribly loud and cramped. I will take the 737 for its room, conveniences, smooth ride and much faster speed any day of the week. But we won't have to worry as the odds of AC adding a route to YEG is unfortunately pathetically low.

On shorter routes such as YEG-YVR you would barely notice the time difference between the 737 and Q400. Even moreso on flights from YEG to the interior of BC.

I've flown the Q400 a few times with Horizon and was very impressed with it, much quieter than the older Jazz DHC-8's and quite comfortable.

The times would be somewhat noticeable, around 20-25 minutes for a trip to YVR. The Q400 max cruising speed is 414 mph whilst the 737 is 511 mph (max speed is 544 mph).

That is true but then factor in things like ATC slowing and vectoring incoming traffic, and other factors and you can eat away that 20-25 minute difference anyways.

Plus, we are debating 25 extra minutes in the air. As we travel through the sky at hundreds of miles per hour, IN THE SKY!

But the fuel burn is supposed to be very much lower. In the end, on routes like that your spending as long or longer in the airport as in the air. An extra 15 minutes in the air doesn't change much.

But the breakeven point on the Q400 for seats filled is lower than an RJ. So perhaps YEG would see some more routes open up, isn't that what you guys are looking for?
