It's funny you mention this though, earlier today I was wondering how often they would come around and do updated shots. You just think about how often cities change, and especially Regina and Saskatoon right now. There has been so much stuff go up since the car came through a year ago.

Speaking of Google... I tried reporting a problem on their map of Saskatoon. They have Stonebridge labeled as "Stonerideg", Like wtf? Maybe if they said Stoneridge, it might be a bit more excusable.

That's the only major mistake I've noticed. But they also have lots of Circle Drive labeled as Louis Riel Trail... I don't know what's going on with that. Anyone?

Anyway, I'm supposed to get an email once they've addressed the "Stonerideg" matter. And don't worry.... I'll keep you all posted!!!!

They have Ring Rd in Regina labeled as "Lous Riel Trail" as well. Weiiird.

Highway 11 is Louis Riel Trail. So any roadways Google recognizes as Highway 11 get that name.

Saw the entrance of the wine store on 19th Street. I think the name is Cava Wines...anyways, it's quite the transformation from the original yellow stucco wall. I imagine the interior is of a similar quality (classy).

Hey driving down Spadina around Pinehouse if you look across the river there are always backhoes and heavy equipment working on what appears to be a road leading into the river. Does anyone know what they're doing over there? I'm sure it's something real boring.

Just to comment about libraries in SK. There has not been a funding increase for library construction and upgrades in the province since the 1950's that's why our public library is having such a difficult time expanding. In my opinion it is completely absurd. These buildings house so much knowledge and necessary teaching tools that I think we're just hindering our own educational development. But apparently the gov. doesn't realize that. Maybe some kind person will donate 50 or so million to the project!

We should see a grand opening of the newly renovated and expanded Place Riel early in 2011.

The University of Saskatchewan Students Union President says the work is on schedule and on budget.

Chris Stoicheff says both the Campus Computer Store and Campus Cove are done.

In September the global Commons will be opened.

Stoicheff explains Place Riel will be LEED certified, which verifies that the project is environmentally sustainable.

The grand opening should be in February, and Stoicheff adds they hope to have Place Riel fully commissioned by January.

Mosaic Stadium and Harvard`s Twin Towers have been there in 3d for a while already ...

Has anybody had time to install on their computer(s) and try/use/play with Google SketchUp (Yum-m-m! Spells similar to my favourite -- ketchup!) to create these great 3d renderings, which supposedly anyone can contribute on Google? And some help using the application is on the SSP forum here! I`ll be waiting to see more buildings in 3d! More (S)ketchup, please! -- Like River Landing! ...

What I don't get is why there isn't more collaboration between the university and the city (here or elsewhere). The civic libraries are pathetic compared to the university. Apparently the public can borrow for $150 annual fee, but why not pool some resources and try to offset a bit of that cost or at least market it better to drive the cost down? I understand there'd have to be preference to students, researchers etc. but there's a functioning recall system that shouldn't be too hard to enforce. Maybe I'm missing something, but there are so many more resources rotting away in the the Murray cube that the public might as well have access to.

Yes I have installed it and took it for a test drive some time back. The results are amazing but I personally could not find the time to give it an honest go. Would love to see someone tackle River Landing.

North bridge begins to top council agenda

With the $263-million Circle Drive South project underway there hasn't been a meeting at City Hall where the construction of the north bridge and a perimeter road hasn't been discussed.

The mere look at preliminary plans for the perimeter road and the north river crossing, a billion-dollar construction project that would allow highway traffic to bypass Saskatoon, draws approval from most council members.

Except Coun. Charlie Clark.

"My goal would be not to go forward with the perimeter highway because this is going to be billions of dollars," Clark said at a committee meeting Tuesday.

His remarks caused Coun. Pat Lorje to pause before jokingly calling Clark a "heretic."

"There's always going to be a need to move goods," Lorje said. "We're always going to need a perimeter road."

After the meeting, Clark explained that he wants to see the city explore other options for alternative transportation such as expanding the rail network before building such a costly infrastructure project.

The drawings for the northwest portion of the road show the north bridge crossing between Wanuskewin Heritage Park and the Akzo Nobel Chemicals plant and large interchanges outside the city at Highway 11 to Prince Albert, Highway 12 to Blaine Lake and Highway 16 to North Battleford. Two weeks ago, councillors approved more detailed plans for the interchange at Highway 16 to Yorkton and interchange plans are underway for Highway 5 northeast of McOrmand Drive and at Highway 11 to Regina.

I don't know if you've been to the Murray library recently, but it's mostly computers now. With widespread Internet access already here, I don't see the case for spending lots of money on libraries at this time.

I always thought that the city should have built the North Bridge first. That little stretch of Circle Drive where the lights are is such a pain in the butt, whoever thought it was a good idea to put businesses along that stretch should be shot. It gets incredibly congested and sometimes end ups being just one long bumper to bumper traffic jam, that bridge would get rid of a lot of the semis and cargo trucks and would alleviate a lot of the congestion. It also looks like the industrial area is just going to keep growing north with nothing to stop it. The west side of Saskatoon is growing but not to the extent of the north side. Keep in mind Warman, Martensville and Osler are also growing like weeds.

I'm sure companies have big plans for Northern Saskatchewan and all the resources up there but might be hesitant to do anything until they can efficiently transport their goods and right now Saskatoon just creates this bottleneck.
