I appreciate that you would all like to see me back...Its very flattering.

My wife said it was upto me but when my local friend Javier broke down tonight when we told him and his wife, I very quickly made my mind up.

I went for a walk on my own just to think.

We are staying were we are.My friends at MMUN were also sad to see me consider leaving.

This place is just to beautiful to say goodbye.

Has anyone heard anything about the setting up of a regional bus service to YEG.

Was not this supposed to be presented around this time?

If you are looking to buy a home and would have a decent down payment then the prices are fine. If you are looking at staying here for a couple of years and maybe moving on, i'd rent. Of course, i am a contrarian and i have many reasons why i believe prices will keep on going down unlike the realtors, home builders and land developers will tell you.

If you want, i could drop off some magazines off at the Cancun airport as i'll be in Cancun again next Tuesday. I'm sure i speak for most on here saying we'd love to have you back.
Ahhhh, don't look for prices to remain softer than they have been. There is a lot of activity happening and overall inventory has dropped. Last year was a good year to get a 'deal', but there are no wholesale prices I can tell you that.

I think they're still studying the planning of the study of the plan.

There was never a 'deal' to buy a home in the last couple of years in almost anywhere in Canada. Our ratio betwen income and house prices is higher than that of the US when their bubble bursted. Our bubble has not bursted due to 'crack' interest rates propped up by our government and by out of control government spending again propping up the economy. Taxes and service fees are going up, government programs are going down, the home reno program is over, unemployment is not decreasing, Ontario manufacturing jobs are gone forever, the Olympics are over, peoples income is not increasing at all relative to the jump in house prices and then there's demographics. And don't say 'it's different here' because it isn't.

Good choice on staying in Cancun Tuffy. Stay out of the mess that will happen in this country in the next 2 to 5 years.

I guess that's your opinion. I didn't say housing prices were going to bust through the roof again, they aren't based on the fundamentals that are out there. But we've seen prices stabilize and I believe that will continue well into the future. And our housing situation is no where near what happened in the US. If you think our real estate industry is going to go through the same down cycle it has in the US, you're wrong.

Anyways, this isn't the forum to be discussing this topic.

^Again, your basic argument says "it's different here" so there's no point debating. There are TONS of similarities between the US and Canada. In fact it is worse here in terms of taxes and population density. I was basically giving Tuffy reasons not to buy a house here even if he decided to come back. The weather alone is reason enough not to come back here lol.

You couldn't be more wrong but that is for another thread. Comparing us to the US market is apples to beef jerky my friend as the average single family dwelling price was $369,573 for February up just 1.4% from January; 5.6% from a year ago. (FYI, we are only 13.3% down from the peak of 2007)

^I'll have no problem admitting i'm wrong if and when the time comes. Of course i'm looking in the next couple of years and not tomorrow. You must be smoking something good if you think i'm comparing the US and Canada in terms of average single family dwelling prices.

I thought i remember reading council flip flopping on the whole idea. First, they were going to have a bus run from YEG to Century Park once the LRT extension opens. Then they decided that the bus service should somehow be funded / run by the surrounding communities. I thought the idea was dead in the water again.

Yeah, I was once involved with a proposal related to this. The last I heard in January is that ETS is going to put a designated stop at Century Park Transit Centre for SkyShuttle. SkyShuttle will not make scheduled trips between Century Park and YEG however, but will act exactly like their hotel stops (you'll have to request for pick-up at CP online).

You may recall I think in December that the ETS Advisory Board recommended that ETS set up a route between Century Park and YEG, using an ETS bus. The possibility of a premium fare for this route was discussed. However, ultimately the City of Edmonton and ETS got flak for even considering this from the Capital Region Board. Their problem was that if ETS set up their own route to serve only Edmonton, that this would set a precedent and make it less likely for an intermunicipal bus route to ever be created to serve Edmonton, YEG and various points in Leduc County.

It's a mess guys.
