Now thinking of this... After Evergreen line, transit for Belcarra and Anmore would be equally as good as Poco (or better if you count as per-capita basis).. and Poco was used to be the transit hub before it was moved to Coquitlam Station... sigh...
I don't think too many people up in Anmore would be willing to use transit.. and there are way fewer people in Anmore than in PoCo?

AFAIK the long term plan is to take David Avenue across the water eventually to North Van.

What about Belan Pomocopoco? It does sound like a counterpart (female?) to the fabled creature in the Okanagan!

Promising more details in just a few weeks, Premier Gordon Campbell said yesterday that the Evergreen Line will likely be built as part of a public-private partnership.

Another P3 project! I wonder whether Bombardier would be interested in investing money into the project.

Oh no! We may end up with another Skytrain line with "short" platform and "toy" train.

^ SNC-Lavalin built the Millennium line guideway, I think...

Er, to what end? We don't need Tri-Cities people driving to North Van for services they can get in Coquitlam, or (god forbid) driving to Vancouver via Deep Cove and 2nd Narrows!

I think the latter is the intent. David Avenue is supposed to be a new east-west corridor, fueled in part by the new housing projects in North-East Coquitlam. It'll eventually link up with Lougheed again in Port Coquitlam at the Pitt River Bridge interchange.

I've seen a diagram with the Pitt River Bridge interchange and David Avenue somewhere on hear but I'm not able to find a Pitt River Bridge thread..

Edit: Linked up through Freemont (and I imagine changes further north to accommodate traffic going through that area)..

Bombardier's participation is probably guaranteed if the Evergreen is operated as a branch of SkyTrain and doesn't have its own OMC (unless they cleverly make a train from another manufacturer that can run to OMC without using the linear guidway, which would be a waste of money). The only question I think is who would build and maintain the stations and rights-of-way.

Not to play the devil's advocate but inflation will probably increase that cost to what it is now.

Sounds cool, but I don't think we'll see a link between the North Shore and Fraser Valley/Tri-Cities in our lifetimes. The Lonsdale Citizens Coalition, the Deep Cove Citizens Group, the Edgemont Good Neighbours Club, and the Mount Seymour Neighbourhood Activist Society will join forces to blockade everything from a bridge from Anmore to a three-storey high building.

I hope everything regarding the Evergreen Line uses the same technology as the Expo and Millenium lines.. Not that I don't mind the Canada Line it just makes sense to use same system on this line.. Let's hope bombardier is involved!

It will be Bombardier SkyTrain/ALRT. There's no way around it. No new OMC for Evergreen, no new rolling stock, existing track at Lougheed Station.. also, integration with M-line has been mentioned previously.

No new rolling stock?! No way. New trains must be purchased to maintain a high frequency, unless they do choose to run the shuttle service between Lougheed and Columbia which I vehemently oppose.

I'm interested to see how the P3 is integrated for the Evergreen Line and which project partners will be involved. I'm hoping to see this P3 project include potential developers for the station lands, such as the one for Coquitlam Central.

Doubtful, since the Evergreen station platforms will need to be (at least) the same length as Millenium station platforms since some trains running east from Lougheed will go to Coquitlam, rather than loop back to New West.

I read somewhere that all the E-Line and M-Line stations were getting lengthened to handle 6-car Mk II trains. If so, the Evergreen stations should be built to that length now instead of spending hundreds of millions doing platform lengthening later, even though there may not be enough passenger traffic to justify it on opening day. A compromise to save time & money may be to have the provisions for longer platforms in the station design, but only build what's needed for the first few decades of expected passenger traffic.

However, after all the E-Line and M-Line stations are lengthened, you would then have to ensure short 4-car Mk II trains run on the Evergreen line and M-Line from UBC to Coquitlam, and long 6-car Mk II trains don't get used on the Evergreen line (you don't want the front and back cars of a long train having their doors open to empty space).

Sarcasm.

It's just the Expo Line platforms that are being lengthened. The Millennium Line won't ever see that level of traffic, at least, not until the Broadway extension opens. It would be ideal to have the platforms built to the max already, but that will increase the cost of the project and potentially mean it not begin now. As long as it's built "extendable" for the future, it's fine.

I can't find anything official in writing to this effect, but I remember hearing it previously SOMEWHERE. Another thing to consider is that with the Edmonds OMC at capacity with the new Mark IIs, where would we put new trains in conjunction with the Evergreen Line? Won't we have enough to go without a shuttle service until either UBC or Surrey expansions start up?

I still don't think lengthening the platform on the Expo Line would be a good idea as the line is still far from the ultimate capacity. Assume the 3% annual ridership increase trend continue, the busiest segment between Broadway and Main would not reach the ultimate capacity until around 2038, and the section east of Columbia to Surrey would be suffice until at least 2071. For the hundred of millions, I would rather to have it spend on expanding the Millennium Line westward (which, would provide much better help in relieve overcrowding than a mere few meter expansion of platform). By the time its really overcrowded (assume by that time, Surrey has not yet become the new regional centre of Metro Vancouver), we would be probably thinking more for a relief line than expanding the capacity on the current line.

As for the Evergreen platform, I think expansion will be easy for most stations as they are at-grade. Lougheed is already long enough, and the only ones that would have problem is Burquitlam and Douglas (which would be also quite easy since its at the end-of-line). So building long platform at the beginning doesn't really matters.

A new train storage yard is being built along with the Evergreen Line.

A whole yard? I thought they were just building a little bit of extra tail track at Douglas to park a train or two..

No, I think they're still looking for putting a yard somewhere on Barnet between Ioco and Johnson? At least that was the original LRT plan.

They're currently running 56 trains right now, and the current Break at CO plan requires 71 trains. So they'll have to buy new train - probably around 60-68 cars.
