I thought I was remembered correctly and it looks like I did, here's the post from Jared, which shows seepage as well as the catch basin w/o sumps installed and why there are no sumps.

Just wondering, will there be any chances in the future that the chime sound before the announcement of the next station will be recorded, installed and played in the C-Line trains as well? I hope Translink people will do that in the near future. I recently bumped into one of the videos on youtube and even the older MK II trains have that chime (so I guess ALL M/E-Line trains have them). That'll make the the Skytrain system so much more unified and consistent.

I read his comments as stating that there is a sump pump at the low point, but that they had to install it below the tracks instead of at the side of the tunnel (due to soft soils) - so if it malfunctions, it could only be fixed (serviced) at nighttime when the trains are not running.

That would make sense if that's what happened here - they needed to stop trains running through the tunnel to access the sump pump to fix it.

Looking at the pic though unless there is another path for the hose to go I can't see how they could operate the pump while the train in running. Would need to see the actual plans or a larger photo.

Yeah, it would depend whether that hose as shown is used to divert the water.
I guess he could mean that the pump could only be "operated" at nighttime.

i'm sure if it was possible, they would've done it but isn't there like a emergency/maintenance walkway in the tunnel? couldn't have hose have been under the walkway?

There was a incident this morning on the Canada Line, medical emergency caused the train to be shut down at Oakridge...they couldn't get the man out.

And apparently it resulted in massive congestion at Brighouse to the point they had to barricade the entrance. The lone platform was very crowded. As well, a station attendant on the platform had to push a person's hand into the train because of overcrowding. (Japanese train pushers?)

^ As I said before, Brighouse is the real problem station on the line... they need to rethink the division of trains between the two spurs. :-(

I'd agree that the frequency between the spurs needs work, but you can't argue too much when there's an unexpected emergency like that.

I think (hope) this type of example will discourage any more spurs on future rapid transit lines.

Apparently, some guy stuck his head out of the car at Langara just when the doors closed.

I'd also rethink any visions to extend the Canada Line any further into Richmond. It's a bad idea.

Ideally, there should be two trains going to Richmond and one going to YVR....but YVR's existing frequency of ~7-minutes during the day needs to be maintained. There's quite a bit of demand from the airport as well.

^ How do they handle that sort of medical emergency? Do they continue to run trains on the other track, or do they shut both down?

^ they shut trains on the track the train is running on. The section between where the nearest track switches are are shut down, and both northbound and southbound trains share the same track until the situation is resolved.

Many complain about the blandness of our stations (not bland soon... considering the number of advertisements being installed now... CC Stn has way too many), but I think art, slightly below this level, will differentiate each stations from each other quite well.
I was in LA two weeks ago and was thinking about this too. Every station on the Red Line (an underground RT line) has a different theme so you can just glance out the window and know which station you're at based on the themed decor.

There is a crossover north of Oakridge and another south of Marine, so that segment will run trains in alternating directions on the available track.

I'm not sure if they alternate by running a train Northbound through the single tracking segment from Marine to Oakridge (continuing to Waterfront as normal), then send a waiting train Southbound, or if during rush hour they would send a few Northbound together like a conga-line & then a few Southbound together.

Not an easy commute. I hope people stranded on the trains & platforms were kept well informed of the problems. Were any buses added to Cambie to shuttle people between the stations?

Sounds like it was accident rather than deliberate act?
Langara is a rather dangerous station for AM rush, it is the middle point of the line with sizable amount of people trying to get on and off, particularly during AM rush when the northbound train is near full, the time duration for door open is simply not long enough.

if YVR 7-minutes frequency becomes 10, I still see everyone boarding on the three Sea Island stations has a seat.

I think the 1:1 ratio is good for now. We need more trains though, and once we get more, then we can have a 2:1 ratio and still keep up frequencies to the Airport. We could even do a random ratio, like 2 then 1 then 1 then 1 then 2, seeing as all the platforms have upcoming train times, riders will be informed.

The good thing about trains to the airport is that they are less full, and great if you are traveling between any stations between Bridgeport and Waterfront.

I've even noticed a lot of people catching onto "the trick". If you are on the mainline going to Richmond Spur, what you do is get on the first train that arrives that has room. If it is a YVR train, you ride it to Bridgeport and get off there. Then catch the Brighouse train behind it.

See, You are going to have to wait anyway, but at Bridgeport the train actually has FEWER people on it, even Richmond bound ones. Every train always has quite a few people that get off before or at Bridgeport, so the trains actually have room at Bridgeport. I've noticed a lot of people doing this, getting off a YVR train and getting on Brighouse train. They always have more room at Bridgeport than they do at VCC.

True, but this is suppose to be rapid transit afterall and proper systems like ours consist of frequent schedules...having trains come every 10-minutes during the day is really stretching it.

While I am not sure if Canada Line airport branch can be described as dedicated airport link, 7-minutes (daytime) is certainly among one of shorter interval to wait for a transit train servicing an airport station. I am too lazy to dig out all other city stats, I do know HK airport express is actually 12-minutes.
